New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Hot diggity dog ....

I love the original version and cannot wait to use this version and see if any difference exists. Super durable and even the original version is easy to use when following Dr G's directions and advice.

Which QD are you using Chris. I found OC to almost "repel" OID and it ended up streaking every time I tried it, along with every other QD I have...which is a good thing I guess. :D

I use OID (4:1) or Opti Clean (4:1) as a drying agent/quick detailer with no streaking issues.

What is the recommended wash method once your car is coated with this?

No modification of your wash method is needed. ONR, 2BM, Foam gun/cannon...

This stuff sounds really promising. I wonder how well it would also work on the wheels. I am excited that the coatings are available for not that bad of a price.

How do the coatings react to being topped? For example, could you use a wax with a bit of filler on top of the coating without compromising the coating underneath? I understand that you would probably loose some of the properties of the coating.

The coating really shows it's repellency potential on wheels. You no longer need a dedicated wheel cleaner after application. Car wash shampoo and at times a light APC will take care of them after coating.

The coating will not allow most "toppers" to bond, so most likely you will be wasting time and product. If you'd like to use a QD or spray wax that'd be fine, but it will only be a lubricant for your drying towel or a drying aid. The beading/sheeting will take on the topper while it is there, but it won't be there very long.

Chris, I'm thrilled you guys finally got this to market. One question that hasn't been asked yet is that how does the longevity of OC compare to OG? I have a full syringe of the original OC, will it outperform the new OC or is it just a matter of ease of application? I can get both, so I want the product which is going to last the longest.

Well, you got my attention. Gonna have to pick some up and try it on my car, then start offering it to customer if I like it. :dblthumb2:

This is great news. I don't think I'd have a use for it though as I'd have no use for my current LSP's and I do enjoy applying them every now and then hahaha.

wow. this appears to be a really different product! very interesting.

Jeeze...no more need for wheel cleaners, polishing, or LSPs...just washing....what will detail addicts do..?..man, I'll need to buy a couple more cars just to have something to do.

 that would be the only drawback for the hardcore detailer. if you love to try different products this would drive you nuts. but on the other hand think of the money savings in the long run. one product. one application. DONE.

So presumably, given the nature of this coating it should produce a measurably changed reading with a PTG (as in, the coating will add a few microns or tenths of a mil to the "film build" thickness of the finish), correct?

Good Question!

Also, how long should it last?

I'd pass on it. It's nice to get out of the house for a while to do your ride. I enjoy washing and waxing my cars. I might use it on my mom's car do to the fact that she treats it like crap. She wouldn't ask me to detail it so often.

This stuff looks great, and I could sell the crap out of it to customers, if I could get them to believe the manufacturers claims. I just like waxing my own car to much to apply this to my car I think. Who knows? I am sure my car will end up with it on it as well! LOL

I think I'll take the plunge this will be great for my daily driver. I suspect most of us may find ourselves wanting to polish out swirls and defects before this product wears out.

I used Opti Guard on the faded plastics of a Hummer H2 and it is amazing stuff. Restored the color perfectly and will be permanent.

Heres a chemical question for Chris. Is Opti-coat and other glass like coatings based on some form of Sodium Silicate which is also called Waterglass. It will seal concrete, it should seal paint.

Where does this product leave OCW and OS on the shelf collecting dust?

This sounds amazing... It would be perfect to use on a DD that doesn't usually get regular care (like my girlfriends car).

I definitely understand what you're saying about not topping with other products, but is this something that you can layer with another layer of opti-coat 2.0? I don't necessarily mean right away, but when the first coat starts to get thin can you apply another coat right on top of it?

Which leads me to my second question: How permanent is it? Once it cures, is Opti-Coat 2.0 in essence the clear coat of the original clear coat? I think that I saw the only way it can be removed is to compound and polish, but just looking to verify.

This will definitely be on my next order.

Finally Chris...lol Ordered up and will be applying to my truck and CQuartz is going on my wifes car. Should be nice comparison.

This is so amazing!!! :D

I had already ordered Cquartz and that'll go on my hood!

Will get this and do the roof with it!!! Will be a nice comparison!!

Thank you for your patience. I know a lot you you guys were put off that you couldn't get the original, so I'm very pleased to be able to give you what you wanted. I am looking forward to seeing your impressions on how easy it is to apply and how much you like the look and low maintenance.

I just need to find a clean garage for 12 hours so I can try this stuff out.
