I've been listening to you guys raving about Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System. It appears that this system targets the heavier portion of the correction phase then followed up with the wax supplied with this system.

Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System, paint polishing system, car polish, car detailing system, compounding system, remove scratches

Surbuf makes pads that "look" very similar to the pads manufactured for Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction Correction System. Has anyone actually compared the Surbuf pads to the Meguiar's pads side by side and if so how similar are they?

Surbuf R Series 5.5 Inch Buffing Pads 2 Pack, surbuf pads, microfingers pads, polishing pads

The reason I ask is;

  • From the photos the both appear similar in design and construction.
  • The both appear to be used with Meguiar's M105 or similar compound..
  • With the compounds and polishes I have it seems that adding Surbuf pads would give me the same correction ability as the Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System at a much lower cost..
Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated....:props:

I see some of your points Bobby...

Initial cost is much lower with surbuff but they don't work as well for as long from what I gather. I haven't used the mf megs pads And personally I'm not in a rush but they are supposed to be able to be used more than 50 times and can be washed in the washer. I know the mf probably finish better from what I hear but well I'm tired of typing. I won't even get into that. Gotta go

Corey, why are you not wanting to try it?

Bobby, if you would like, PM me your address and I will send you one of each of the MFDA pads to try out. I can even send a sample of the compound and finish wax.

I already have the Surbuf R Series 5.5 Inch Buffing Pads on my wish list. Also was thinking along the line of the Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System.
Will be ordering them along with a whole bunch of other items before the weekend is over.

It's not that I don't want to try it. Just don't want to spend more money on things I don't need right now. :)

Corey, same offer to you.

That is very kind of you James! I'll send you my address. If you don't have a lot of extras don't send me one though. The thought alone was very nice and hard to turn down if you decide to.
Thank you

Bobby they arent at all similar. The Megs are similar to a plush MF . Long pile. I think they will be much more durable. I didnt bother to describe the SurBuf.

Corey, its my pleasure. I have enough to give you and Bobby samples. Just write one of those nice reviews! LOL.

As for durability, I have used these pads on around ten cars now and they look like new still.

I've completely stopped using surbufs. They aren't durable at all, cut good, but finish with a lot of micro marring, I feel the Meg's MF pads are much more durable, cut better, and finish a lot better!

Surbuf's leave tic marks, cuts about the same, durability hmm questionable on 50 cars I've flat spotted the middle of 2 of them on boats, the backing started coming off in the middle of one other, this was all on cutting disk, the finishing disk still look new after a ton of aio jobs

would a mf cutting pad and m105 be as efficient as a wool pad? I have the purple foam wool pads from lc are the equivalent to the actual twisted wool pads?

I've used both, and I liked the Surbuf a lot before the Meguiar's pad came out. But the Meg's pads are far superior in the longevity area. The cost is easily justified by how long they last compared to the Surbuf.

Hi James,

Yes I would like to try it and thank you for the kind offer. I'll PM you my address.

Mark,

This is some of what I was wondering, thank you..

Jim,

This is more of the detail I was interested it. Not having them in front of me leaves only the photos online and they aren't all that good.

John,

More great information! I wanted to order Meguiar's DA Microfiber 5 1/2 kit but they're out of stock everywhere so then I started looking at the Surbuf pads..

I've used both, and I liked the Surbuf a lot before the Meguiar's pad came out. But the Meg's pads are far superior in the longevity area. The cost is easily justified by how long they last compared to the Surbuf.

John,

Thanks for the detail. Knowing that the Meguiar's product is better and lasts longer makes the decision allot easier!

Thanks guys for all the help!! :dblthumb2:

Hey guys, sorry just got into this discussion. I just got a surbuf pad, and planning to use it to cut a bit of thin scratches on soft paint using the meg's DA. I have S17, Menz FF, M#205, and I'm planning to remove these scratches using a surbuf pad and M#205. Since the car's paint is a bit on the soft side, would it be dangerous to use the combo I've mentioned? 2 weeks ago I tried to remove these fine scratches using white LC smart pad with S17 and the scratches remained.

Any suggestions?

The pads are nothing alike..the MF pads are like long plush MF the Surbuf I would call it more like a buzzcut hairstyle
quick pic i took while ago

I never used the MF system, but I have use Surbuf pads and can tell you they cut real nice. It just need to be followed up with orange pad to remove any micro swirls it leaves on the paint.

In my experience, mf pads for soft paint and Surbuf for hard paint. What are you working on?

While I've never used the brand name Surbuf pads I have used some pads very similar. Don't recall a name, and they were already on the buffer when I received it.

What I found, while using on dark paint, was the same marring that the two fellas above me found. Upon close inspection on the surface many of the little "fingers" were found lying on the surface of the paint. I don't have any proof that it hurts anything for these fingers to come off of the pad, but I don't like it none-the-less.

When I first heard all the talk here at AG about them, naturally, I had to take a peek in the onlie store. When I seen what they were my first thought went back to my first experience with a similar pad. I could hardly believe anyone would recommend such.

That said, perhaps what I used are different from the Surbuf pads, but I'm not going to spend my money to find out. I'd rather take a chance on using the Meg's MF correction system pads.

Bill
