Is detailing a business for the disabled

Thank you for the encouragement. The linked thread is very appropriate.

I have found something here on AG that I have found very seldom anywhere in my life. The peoples want to share their knowledge. Most everywhere I have worked people seem to be afraid to give advice and share their knowledge. Here it is like they can't wait to help. I think that is why I keep coming back and can't stop reading, waiting on the next great story. You detailers out there are incredible!
TDave- I have read many of your posts and always had this feeling that you are really one of the good guys, and when I read what you posted in this thread it enforced that feeling very much.
Mike- As a fellow instructor I have so much respect for you and have watched all your videos and have taken some of your instructor technique into my classroom. I have always known you really have a care for people and seeing you start a thread about that guy flying a kite on Americas Got Talent really drove that home.
Max and everyone else at AG- I have never experienced a company run like this one is run, it's incredible!
This all goes to show no matter who you are you can have anything you want, so whether you are disabled or not, if you put your mind to it you can do anything!

Although TDave lives about 3 hrs from me, I hope to someday have the opportunity to pay him a visit and talk shop. I have so much to learn and first hand experience is priceless.

In the meantime, he has been nice enough to send me his contact details for chat so that I can talk to him.

I think with the help of the detailers here at AG, you have more than enough backup to get you started. I also have no problem offering some advice, or just answering any questions you may have.

I currently run a shop with two full time helpers 6 days a week, and hopefully adding part time mobile work to the equation very soon. If I can help in any way....feel free to give me a call.

Business line is (603) 668-1881. If I don't pick up, which I might not if I see an out of state number...just leave a message and I'll call you back when I have a minute.

Good luck to you! :dblthumb2:

Wow!! I really respect Dave for helping you out + also admire your enthusiasm to detail :dblthumb2:

Its really-really great to see ppl overcoming their personal problems to detail! :xyxthumbs:

Wish you a successful detailing career and don't forget to post your work under 'show and shine' section! :props:

I am definitely going to need some business advice.

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation has a program that helps people with disabilities raise the capital to start their own businesses. They are able to provide up to 50% of reasonable expected start up costs (up to $10K).

To be eligible for the program, I was told I would need to have done the following. Performed feasibility studies, created a viable and practical business plan, have done appropriate market analyses, and have financial estimates.

I have no idea where to start with meeting those requirements.

When I had my last business, I simply saw a need, took my savings bought some products, opened a business to fill that need and followed the tax and resale laws.

I will definitely post some pics of the jobs I get with the car owners consent.

This certainly is an inspiring thread, what a great forum to be a part of!!

Michael, I've added you to my yahoo messenger contact list. Feel free to contact me any time you feel like chatting. My schedule is ever changing and I'm all over the place so If I don't reply right away it's because I'm away from my computer.

TDave: Thanks.

Does anyone know how to do a business feasibility report for a mobile detailing business?

I wanted to also sound in a give you some encouragement. Since you are here, I'm sure you know how rewarding properly detailing a vehicle can be. Without a doubt AG is one of the most supportive communities I have encountered. Having a strong support network, particularly one that is open 24/7/365, is going to be important for you to be successful.

I had the opportunity to attend Detail Fest this year and meet Max, Mike and many of the staff members. All I can say is, they are truly passionate about this industry, so much so it was inspiring!

When you achieve greatness at something people will easily overlook any disability you have. From my experience, those people who are eager to judge will all of a sudden become very quiet.

I want to congratulate each and every person who offered their assistance to the OP.

"Youse guys is da BEST!"

I live in NE PA about 1hr from Scranton. My wife and I travel.through.Diction City about 3x per week.

I am visually impaired, yet I can detect swirl marks and other paint imperfections reasonably well under good light.

I forgot to mention that I have training in autobody repair from my high-school days. I prefer not to deal with painting, yet I am trained on how to prep, paint, and finish.
can relate. I am legally blind and gave up my DL too. I detail because it is therapeutic. That being said, I rely on my wife to find my misses like I did when I had 20/20. I am much more systemmatic than I was when I could see fine and probably do a better job with Low Vision than I did before. There is excellent Low Vision that allows me to work at my profession and would allow you to make a living on the internet again.

Old Tiger:

I hope you do not mind me asking, what is your.profession.and what type of low vision aid(s) do you use?

If you can do the work, gopher it.
I am near sited from diabetes and I do vinyl and leather repair. I use 2 different magifing glasses. 1 is a visor type and one is a handheld. you do what you have to do.

I dont mind at all! I use ZoomText. It is a magnifier & reader. The reader is fantastic and very natural. It uses NeoSpeech. You can download a trial full version. I own a small Engineering Consulting firm. I consult for a utility full time and use my reader exclusively. Try it and see how you like it. I havent tried any other software.

I am so excited!

If things go as planned, I will have the honor of meeting TDave next weekend.

I feel so honored that someone is willing to make a multi-hour trip to help me learn and allow me the joy of first hand experience detailing with an accomplished detailer.
