How do you handle this?

I just shut my mouth when it comes to things that shouldn't be in peoples cars. It's happened WAY too many times, and it's not worth the argument. I just pretend nothing happened. No skin off my hide if someone wants to get drugged up. I'm still gonna do my job regardless.

But, when it comes to finding syringes or something of that nature...then I will speak up. Vehicles like that I will not do. It's not worth the risk of getting poked. I just try to be extra careful when it comes to tight spaces. Never reach around with your fingers...very dangerous.

I never really thought about this, but this is a very good point. I haven't done enough cars to find anything illegal but when I do, I will know how to take care of it now.

Great thread! :props:

I paid to detail. I'm not a cop. Bad things can happen to people who snitch. Seen enough episodes of law and order to know that. Its not out job to judge. Leave it done and go about your business and don't say anything. Unless its like flash said.

Very true I never take the judgement of a person's character into my hands over things like drugs... I know several very good lawyers that use cocaine recreationally and honestly IMHO that is their prerogative...

I appreciate all of the input!

1st try the pot to see if its any good. 2nd on the meth flush it down the can. then tell them a real good tip is in order lol

I encountered a crack pipe on one of my first paid details. I am not a cop, I don't get paid to be one, if someone wants to smoke, sniff or snort then fine. I can't save everyone. I just put the pipe in a bag with everything else that was left in the car, put it in the trunk, and went on with my work.

take it and smoke it haha j/k. Do whatever you want to do just dont snitch. you making him, he was a good customer until you found that and now hes a bad customer? like everyone said dont clean that area or clean it and put it back!

I couldn't care less if I found drugs in a car I was working on. I'm not a cop. It's not my life. I'm getting paid to detail cars, not snitch on people. I'd gladly welcome them back as long as they paid me. FWIW, I don't do drugs, never have.

I don't condone nor do I condemn this kind of stuff. I have never been around drugs or done anything in my life so I don't know what it's like. What I do know is that there's only one being that can judge us. At the end of the day if they want to ruin their life and their family's life then so be it! As long as they are not messing with my family I don't care. Not only might you piss someone off if you call the cops but you might loose a good customer. All that matters is that you get paid and do your job, you don't know the circumstances of why those drugs are there. If that was me I would put it in some back seat pocket and just say where I placed it when I'm done. Remember one man can make a difference one man and his (detailing) car (van, trailer).

If the customer brings drugs on my property they get to come get their car from my property and lose my number...No amount of money is worth drugs being on my property...My main job is working with DoD and with this job I have to maintain a high level active clearance with polygraphs...

I will not let detailing someones car jeopardize that...If the customer cant understand that then they need not be a customer of mine...I let them know up front as well...Its part of my opening speal...

"Just to forewarn you I do not allow drugs on my property illegal or legal just the same. So please if you have drugs of any kind in the car please take them with you when you leave to drop the car off or do not have me detail the car"

I have yet to find anything...But if I do I will ask them to come and get the car...And if they have an issue with I will just have them arrested as I am very good friends with alot of the local LEOs...

do what i did to a buddy of mine who had some in his car i detaild i took it out sat it aside finished. waited for him to come pick it up and brought him in my house and had him come in the bathroom and as he steped in i dumped the bag into the toilet and made him watch me as i flushed it. told him i ever saw it again. and the next time would be worse. i have a strict no drugs around me . in my car or in a car im in / working on . i grew up was time he did the same :)

:iagree: My "real" job is for a Govt. Contractor where I hold several clearances that require polygraphs. I have a no tolerance policy for drugs in cars. I will stop working on the car and have them come pick it up. As long as it's not a huge amount I won't try to jam someone up with the cops, but I won't work on their vehicles either.

i found items under the back seat of squad cars. i turn it over to the chief afterwards

Here in Memphis, they have that molded fiberglass seat to keep ppl from doing this

I only know this of course from what I've heard "On Tha Streets"

Are you in Law Enforcement?

I think bad things can happen to you if you snitch. I'd just shut my mouth and finish up the job. You're there to make money, not to give a customer a lecture on what they do in their spare time or what substances they put in their body.

Just so you know, if you get pulled over and tell the cops that, unless you have a written prescription from your doctor telling you to crush your pills, its still illegal. Technically, if you use your prescription in any way other than the direction on the bottle, its illegal.

Also, anti-depressants are time release, and are designed to slowly release chemicals over 12 or 24 hours, if you crush it your defeating the purpose. If you can't swallow the pills, talk to your doctor he might have another option.
This is a bit of an over-generalization, so it may not necessarily be true with all medications and in all states.

And Flannigan, I'm curious about the no drugs on your property policy- you say "illegal or legal", so does that include if I dropped my car off and I keep a bottle of Advil in the glovebox?

Sorry- haven't mastered the multi quote yet... But I think some of you guys jump to conclusions and go a little overboard, but bottom line is, it's your business and you get it run it however you feel fit. I'm not in business, so I don't have the same perspective. I only do an occasional friend or family car, so I'd probably just ignore the weed and give a little "WTF?" lecture about the meth...

i ignore them , i clean up interior , and leave everything where it is , i may take pictures for record, but i don`t see it as a big deal , remember you deal with people`s privacy and they trust you , why to ruin that?.......

This is a tough situation for me. I was in law enforcement and currently work as a government contractor. However, detailing a vehicle is a business relationship. I am not in the business of telling customers about the wrongs of illegal substances or how to live their respective lives. But I do have the option of NOT having to deal with that during a detail and can choose not to have them as a customer. A customer like that is not worth the hassle.

:iagree: Completely agree; the same common sense is used by house-cleaners, dry cleaners ect. I'm surprised the drama's lovers in here did'nt want to make a citizens arrest!

This has been a really interesting thread to read through. I think my take away message is that you should be clear with your expectations with your customers upfront, especially if coming across contraband is a deal breaker for you.
