When it comes to wheel cleaners, the options are endless, the tools are diverse, and it's almost certain that you can find a combination of chemicals and tools for your particular application.

With the never ending search for a better product in each respective category, Griot's Garage has done it again with their new Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner. This wheel cleaner is pH balanced, non-acidic, and features a non-caustic formula so it is safe for even the most delicate wheel finishes - including uncoated aluminum.

Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner clings to the surface of the wheel to release stubborn brake dust and other contaminants to make cleaning a breeze. Save time and money by having only one wheel cleaner in your arsenal of car care products.

I had the opportunity to put Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner to the test on severely neglected wheels that had not been cleaned in several months. When trying any new wheel cleaning product, I'm usually pretty skeptical because they all claim to be the best, but with Griot's Garage reputation for manufacturing high quality car care products at a great value, I can honestly say I wasn't very skeptical when it came time to use their newest creation.

You can see right away how filthy these wheels were. It's always critical to clean your wheels often because brake dust particulars are ferrous and will damage the surface of your wheel.

Before spraying on the wheel cleaner, thoroughly rinse the wheel first. It's very important that the wheel is also cool to the touch prior to cleaning.

Liberally spray the Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner on the face of the wheel and in between the spokes.

Let the wheel cleaner sit for 3-5 minutes while it breaks up the brake dust and road grime. As the wheel cleaner interacts with iron particles and road grime, it changes color from being translucent to red.

After the cleaner has sat for a couple minutes, agitate using your favorite wheel brush. I always grab my Daytona Speed Master just because it's quick, easy to use, and effectively cleans in all the hard to reach areas because of its flexible design.

Give the wheel a good rinse with a strong jet of water, dry it off, and apply a protective wheel coating such as DP Wheel Glaze and you're good to go until the next round of cleaning!

Griot's Garage Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner is a safe, effective means of cleaning any neglected wheel finish. It doesn't burn or dry out your skin and contains no harsh chemical smell that lingers in the air. Griot's Garage HD Wheel Cleaner is also much more cost effective than similar heavy duty wheel cleaners, a 35oz is only $16.99 and a gallon is $49.99.

Have fun in your garage with Griot's Garage Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner!

Great work Nick! Looks like there is a new competitor in the wheel cleaner market! And that that price it's a steal! I'm going to have to pick some up and test it out. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Just out of curiosity, does it have a similar smell to Sonax and Iron x? Just wondering. Thanks.

This stuff is amazing, Nick and I got a chance to try it out last week and I really like it! Great price and great product!

Is this what you could not tell us about but most of us would know what to do with it? LOL

I doubt it since in that other thread it says they only have one thing to give away and it's a tester. This product on the other hand is already for sale on the site.

Hmm... now I am back to pondering what it could be!

Looks like I was wrong, this is the Mystery product, guess I misunderstood the first post in that other thread...

Been looking for a new wheel cleaner. Going to give this a try I think.

Wow thanks for the review Nick! I can't wait to see MDetail's review.

I'm happy to see that the product has a good amount of foam when sprayed to the wheel face. That's a really important aspect I'm looking for in a wheel cleaner. Not to mention that it's pH neutral and it interacts with iron particles making it turn red just like Sonax!

We currently only have a tester in house, but we are expecting our shipment in a few days.

Thank you for the clarification. I have one in my cart along with the new OPT polishes...can't wait to give it a try.

There are very few Griots products that are not good products. Their regular wheel cleaner is nice, too. I will be including this in my next order.

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just talked about AutoGlym Custom Wheel Cleaner, but this looks just as good, if not better!!! So, would it be as safe as P21 Gel on any finish?? IT FOAMS OUT OF THE BOTTLE, LOVE THAT!!!! Just ran out of Autoglym Custom Cleaner, just added this to my cart!!!!!

Thank you guys for the writeup! :dblthumb2: It looks like just what I need at the write price. I could have used that this weekend! Washed the wheels with ARO twice and didn't get everything. I only had a few ounces left of my Sonax and wasn't going to use it. Won't buy it again at that price either.

Two questions:
How long did you agitate inside the barrels or how many strokes with the brush between each spoke?
Do you have an "after" picture of closeup of the inside of the barrel you can show?

Yes, it is safe on all wheel finishes. :props:

:iagree: Griots products across the board are good.

Looks like the Griots did an excellent job, but Chemical Guys Diablo Gel gets my vote. For routine cleaning and maintenance, it's very cost effective at roughly $12/gallon.

I've been pleased with Sonax and was about to make that my cleaner of choice for very dirty wheels.........but this looks to be just as good and much, MUCH more cost effective. I'll be getting some of this when I run out of Sonax.

Since it's ph balanced and cost effective, I'll use it on any wheels I come across, not just heavily soiled. No need to have 2 wheel Cleaners. :dblthumb2:
