New! Griot's Garage Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner - in Action!

Do they actually make the stuff or contract it out?

Griot's is very proud if the fact they make their own stuff in USA so I'd be surprised if they didn't make this.

Griot's very first product was wheel cleaner.

As everyone else said, I'd also be interested to see the battle between Griot's HD wheel cleaner and Sonax FE wheel cleaner, no agitation and with agitation. :)

The cleaner has kind of a cherry candy smell to it.

I could smell the cleaner on my hands afterwards though. The scent washed off but not the chemical smell (it wasn't that strong).

I did not wear gloves but I think I will in the future.

Are you sure about that? Not disagreeing, just wondering.

This cleaner looks very promising.

Not entirly true. Most wheels I have cleaned lately have needed no agitation, just let the cleaner dwell and then rinse off with a Pressure washer. Unless the wheels are in really bad shape this will get them sparkling clean without having to touch them with a brush.

Sealed not sealed / coated not coated: I personally have never been able to get any wheel cleaned to my satisfaction level without agitation.

When hearing people claim that no agitation is needed on their wheels (rare) I have often wondered:
  • Are my wheels dirtier?
  • Are my customers wheels dirtier?
  • Is my acceptance criteria of what is clean different than others?
To me wheels are clean when I can literally eat off of them - obviously this final outcome cannot be attained by cleaning alone on severely neglected wheels when refinishing is the only option.

Just my two pesos....

I can see this going nowhere fast. If they buy the chemicals and mix them together themselves, are they really "making" it because they didn't make the chemicals? If Boeing "makes" an airplane but the wing and engines are designed by others to Boeing requirements/specifications, did Boeing really "make" the airplane? Did the builder cheat when he built your house because he didn't chop down the trees for the lumber himself, and he bought nails in the store? Lotta shades of gray with this.

I'm pretty sure. When I visited their store in Tacoma, they said the wheel cleaner, window cleaner, speed shine, polishes, sealants, and waxes were made in USA.

However I checked their website and I can't find anything about it, so maybe they aren't as proud as i thought they were.

I have seen mention in Griots catalogs about them making chemicals. I could not find it on their site either. I do remember stuff like"I wasnt happy with wheel cleaners so I started making my own" kinda quotes.

Per Griot's Garage catalog...

"We develop, manufacture and bottle our Car Care products right here in the U.S.A...."

Good idea-

I have a little Sonax left and when I get some of the Griots I will do a wheel taped 50/50, etc. That is of course unless somebody else is up for it....

At the price offered I won't be purchasing the Sonax wheel cleaner again.

Would love to see your review :xyxthumbs:

Suggestions: If you could take off two rims, take before shots, let each product dwell on a rim, rinse off, then let the product dwell on in the inside barrel then rinse off. Would really show how good the product is with zero agitation but the product itself.

Either ways if you do a review I'll be looking forward to it!

I plan on taking care of that in addition to the regular review.

I got all the video and pictures today. Need to go on my anniversary dinner, then lock myself in a room to put the videos together.

I don't wanna sound like an ass but its going to come off sounding like an ass/ungreatful; but I find it ridiculous that this wheel cleaner 35oz bottle comes with no spray head.

I agree 100%

If it's a product you are going to buy over and over (35oz at a time and not by the gallon), then you don't have to pay for the sprayer each time.

Great review Nick!

I really like Griot's Garage products and have been adding additional items to my stock. I'll be adding this product very soon!
