Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Spar is better than nothing, but will come off pretty fast with degreasers/APC. Opti Lens will be along shortly. It's a hybrid coating with the all the properties of Opti Coat, with added UV blockers to inhibit yellowing.

Can you alert us as to when/how we can try this new product ? I, for one, would be more than happy to acquire a sample to test.

We're beyond testing and the product is finalized. It should be available soon.

OK...brand new to AGO and considering Headlight Restoration for some to-be clients. Is the Opti Lens out yet?

Question: Does anyone have any feedback on this product ? How many sets of lights can be done with the 10cc amount provided?

Actually, no.....I have not used any WOWA sealants or Opti-Coat. I have no experience with those products and only assumed that an excess amount of product would not be flashed and cause a streak on top of the already cured layer. I can see that I have a lot to learn and new things to try. Thanks for the info.:xyxthumbs:
 
Part-timer, if you want to use the Opti-Lens professionally, you should contact Optimum or Chris directly for bulk pricing. There really isn't any real-world experience with the product since it just came out, but if it performs as it's supposed to, it should last as long as the spar. The question for you is whether you save time with it, the Opti-Lens application should be faster, but you have to polish the lens down to clear before application unlike with the spar.

It'll install like Opti-Coat so flashing and wiping (with the right cloth) shouldn't be any different. [video=youtube_share;Yyo_-UA8yM4"]Opti-coat installation videos.[/video] I know 10cc doesn't sound like much, but for headlights I bet you could get 3~4~5 sets... 3 easy. Most of the waste (as usual) will be in the applicator. Would be nice to have several headlight recon jobs at the same time, where you could prep them all and just whip through them with the O-L. :xyxthumbs:

Old headlights are fairly small compared to the ones you see on newer cars. Take some of the sub-compact cars like the Fiesta, or pretty much all the Hyundai cars, and generally all the small cars have huge headlights. Some of them have lights that extend PAST the freaking front axle. Good Lord! I'd suspect if you were doing those it'd use up most of the 10cc for sure. ;)

As for durability, I surely hope that O-L would outlast spar by YEARS. I mean the cost to install spar is pennies versus 10,000 times that to install O-L. Chris has said spar will degrade quickly with degreaser etc. which would hopefully mean that O-L wouldn't. :dunno:
 
Now, does anyone have any good explanation why this wood product (spar) works better than any official automotive clear coat enamel products that are UV protected too?

If this works so well on plastic headlights, should I sand basecoat and apply it to my bumper that I'm going to repaint soon?

And finally, is there a harm in stacking Opticoat2 on top on spar? I'm planning to opticoat the whole car anyway.

I'm not sure it works better than "real" headlight coating products that are sold for that purpose.
