My Neighbors Third Cousins Daughter.....

:)I knew it! That's what this is about, really. Feeling protective towards the poor cute silly girl.
:Picture:Post pics. Tell her it helps with getting the best feedback on the detailing forum. :p

It is true I'm afraid ^ If this was just some dudes car I probally would've never even considered it

Im the MANDang Mike, best set of reply posts ever!:props::props::props::props::props::props:

Definately alot of good info here. However, this particular car will not be my guinea pig. I've weighed the risks -vs- rewards, and quite frankly, the risks are just to high. Sometimes being the best detailer to ever walk Gods green earth requires you to know when to walk away and know when to run :bolt:

Yours,

K. Rogers

* Questions

What is the proper name for a third cousins daughter?

At what point do you say, no, we are of no relation?

Already hit it with a rotary/wool ~ da w/surbuf with little to any improvement

One thing I always do when I wetsand anything and that's a Test Spot.

Sand a section and finish out with your finest grit paper or disc then make sure you can remove your sanding marks.

Thought I would post this because if a heavy cutting compound with a wool pad on a rotary buffer is hardly making a dent in the swirls and scratches that's kind of an indicator that the defects are deep and/or the paint is really hard and if the paint is really hard you don't want to be in a situation where you've sanded down the entire front clip only to find out you can't get your sanding marks out.

I've told the story on this forum and others where a guy painted a Ferrari and then sanded the entire thing down an no amount of compounding with either 3M or Meguiar's would remove the sanding marks the paint was so hard.

He had to repaint the car and he changed paint systems.

I learned from his mistake what not to do...

The rotary removed 90% of it. The problem I'm facing is where she scrubed like crazy in various spots. Plus, alot of these "Hot Spots" are on edges. I can only picture her out there doing this thinking "Wow, this SOS pad sure does remove bugs easily"

I'm getting ready to call my painter (8am) and see if this is something he might be able to fix. I feel alot more comfortable with this being in his hands rather then mine

I hate mistakes that cost me money. I've had enough of them already

Thanks again for your help Mike,

Mike Phillips !!! I noticed that there was a gallon container of Klean-Strip (Prep-All), Wax and Grease Remover. Could this be used as a substitute for mineral spirits and IPA ???

Sorry I don't have anything constructive to add to the thread. I just happened to see the title in the forum listing and had to see what it was about, because it sounded like a great opening to a bad joke lol.

Its Fixed!!!!!!!!! Im the MAN

Took it to my freinds to leave it for a few days. He suggested we go ahead and knock it out :buffing:
2 hours 5 minutes later, I'm on the road again :cruisin:

FYI, Sonata's are made in Montgomery, AL.

Maybe that explains why there so awesome,. I really enjoy driving this car. They sure have come along way since their inception :xyxthumbs:

lol...when my neighbor was explaining who the car belonged to, it was making my head spin. I don't even have a regular cousin, much less a third cousins, or their daughter :(

It was soooo easy. Can't wait to start sanding on something else now :hungry:

Good idea! :dblthumb2:

I guess I don't completely understand what it took to fix. Were you able to just sand it, or did he have to lay down some extra clear?

Going by his previus comment I think they wet sanded it...

I feel let down, I really came in here to see a joke. Do you atleast have before and after pictures?

It does sound like an opening line of a joke...or something a grandparent is telling you about...so n' so's daughters nieces cousins son in law once removed...WTF!

Anyway...pictures would have been cool :)..but glad you got it done...im a little confused too though as to if you just wet sanded it or if your painter buddy re-cleared it.

Also id like to add that the part Mike mentioned about wet sanding an entire car only to find out you can't take out the sanding marks is SCARY! Geez you BETTER have a painter friend if you get in that jam lol (you're so lucky flash)...either that or a damn good insurance :xyxthumbs:

Wow...I missed these responses. Sorry bout that

No clear was needed. My initial plan was to have my neighbor follow me to my freinds place and leave it for him to deal with. Once we got there, he told me I should just stick around, so I sent my neighbor packin

We got everything set up, and I thought I was just going to be watching, but my friend had other plans. He sanded the area above the left headlamp and then handed the sanding block to me and told me to "get busy"

After carefully watching him sand the left side area, I went for the right side, then the center, followed by the bumper and mirrors. I was definately nervous, but quite honestly, it was very simple. Once you get going you can see the defects being removed with each swipe of the block

We used 2000 grit 3M sandpaper, 3M sanding block and this cool little tool he got from Snap-On that allows you to reduce your flow from a garden hose to a 1/8th" line. Its a flat piece of rubber about the size of a pack of long cigarettes...it was really a cool tool, that I definately plan on getting

Correct Romeo

I feel let down, I really came in here to see a joke. Do you atleast have before and after pictures?

I have around 25 before and after pics. Just as soon as I figure out how to post them, I will

As for a joke.....

Knock, knock.......

Your right ^ if I hadn't been at my freinds body shop, I wouldn't have attempted this

I will try to get some pictures up soon

Yes, when my neighbor said something about her "third cousins daughter" I was already sold....I've never heard of anything like this before...
