provided that you use proper washing techniques and don't park next to sprinklers in the hot sun, next time you can use a stripping wash (Dawn and/or OPC), dry, then wax or sealant.
Some people like to prep/refine the surface by using a paint cleaner or a fine polish like UP. You can also clay after washing if the surface feels rough from bonded contaminants.
wax longevity will depend on what you used and the environment you keep your car in i.e garaged, industrial area, etc
