head spinning newbie

I disagree on washing or wipe before wax or sealant. There is nothing in UC that will interfere with a wax or sealant. UC contains water, light petroleum solvents, glycerine and alumium oxide. Nothing there that will bother a wax or sealant. Perhaps the wash/wipedown thing goes back to a time when polishes did contain petroleum oils or perhaps it's just something someone thought up because it sounds so techie and involved.
The reason I said what I did was in case you miss some polish while wiping it off or there is dust left behind, wash just to make sure you have a clean surface to apply your LSP. I'm no pro but most of what I have read on here has been to wash or wipe down between polish and LSP. I don't see where it can hurt other than added work, Maybe I don't need to do this and am wasting my time. I'm still learning here. Anyone else have ideas on this?

I will rarely do an IPA or Dawn restrip on fresh compound unless it is a show car correction including wet sanding... And this step is only if there seems to be some sort of film left over...

Yup. The only time I've done it is prior to CQuartz, and only because Avi told me the components in modern polishes will interfere (my guess is the glycerine). Mike P notes that the chem engineers actually design the products to have a synergistic effect on the next step, especially within a product line. So rather than improving adhesion, the wipedown enthusiats may actually be reducing it.

So a polish with abrasives in it like M205 will help a sealant bond to the paint?

Not exactly. The abrasives are solids and will be wiped off. Mike noted that the products are created to have a synergistic effect. This would mean the non-abrasive components do not interfere with the next step and could actually assist.

Mark709, Sorry I hijacked your thread, I have moved my curiosity to a new thread.

depending on the dusting of the compounds/polishes I will either pull out my air nozzle and blow off the car (if not much) or I will do a quick rinse off then blow dry it before the wax/sealant...
