I've worked with allot of true Portuguese people over the years and while I've remained close friends with several they are a "thrifty" bunch!
OH, about this "Historical" hurricane as some are calling it. My prediction is I'll see some rain, some wind, some folks running around like a chicken with its head cut off, some buying food stuffs that will last more then a month, some buying 100 gallons of more of gas for everything from generators to escape vehicles preparing to the apocalypse...:dunno:
Anthony...I don't know. I spoke to him probably a month or so ago in a brief PM. But, other than that I haven't heard from him. I assume he's just busy like everybody else. Didn't he just have a baby too??
Even with all the news, how serious this hurricane will be. Lexus still want detailers to go to work tomorrow. Who the hell is going be buying a car tomorrow? People are going to be occupied taking care of their family.
It has made landfall. Despite being well inland, it has been mostly sporadic light rain and winds but we lost power for almost an hour.
Getting ready here in Delaware. Hang tough Bunky.
I'm in New Hampshire, right on the ocean. we have had a lot of rain as well. I completely understand why people are so worried.
I shouldn't have used the word ridiculous. Perhaps a bit dramatic. But better safe than sorry. We are all stocked up on batteries and water, as well as canned food.
As I said, I mean no disrespect and wish everyone the best.
I couldn't agree more. About 5 years ago we had the "mothers day floods".We had days of, a bit above average rain fall.
Enough to fill up the drainage systems, saturate the ground, and fill the rivers to their max.
Followed by days of pouring rain that the systems couldn't keep up with. It was the worst this area had ever seen.
I will never forget going to my friends house 15 min away in Exeter, and taking his canoe out and paddling around the neighborhoods.
To add to the anxiety of it all, we are supposed to have an astronomically high high tide when the storm is at its worst here.
Again, good luck everyone.
we made it thru the storm with just a few trees down and limbs in the yard...hope everyone in the path will be safe

Rain has started here is central MD. Its CRAZY how big this storm is. Ive seen predictions for 5-12" of rain fall for my area. Good thing a lot of the power lines are underground here.
My daughter just called from VA near Norfolk. She has lost power and the wind is just starting to pick up...They live in a newer built home so hopefully all the building codes for high winds will keep Irene out. Cell phone still works for now.
Tom
Man, thats terrible Tom. Why doesn't she just leave? It it were me, I would be in Chicago by now
I invited her to my house But..................
She does not like Florida because of all the Hurricans.........:bash:
Tom
Did you get MY Chevy II put up? lol.... wish you the best Pat
Thinking about starting a small camp fire and toasting some marshmallows. It's humid as hell out there but other than that no wind and no rain....:dunno:
Raining hard (but not super hard) and steady, wind is picking up but not really bad yet.
Weather guy on TV really scared the crap out of me when he said that 50mph is generally the threshold for blowing trees down, but that is in a thunderstorm that lasts for 20 minutes. Did I mention tomorrow we are supposed to have sustained winds of 45 to 65mph with gusts to 75 after raining all night, and my house is surrounded by tall trees?
Really hoping this isn't going to be as bad as it sounds.
