Hey, at least you'd still be waiting on pins and needles.... :o

I have been checking AG store site several times a day, since Mike Phillips first posted this thread for the new FLEX smaller size (4") BP's with no show yet.

AutoGeek/Mike Phillips, could you give us AG members(who are eagerly waiting)a estimate when these new FLEX offerings will be available to us-PLEASE?

I could always use a nap. Ask Old Tiger, we love naps

Just woke up from a nap (favorite Sunday sport) and came right here to check to see if the 4 inch backing plate was available yet.

Guess not.:confused::(

So I'll go ahead and finalize this sales order.

Hi Mike [Phillips] or anyone else,

Any update on when the 4" [and 6"] backing plates would be available for purchase? I'll need the 4" plate soon.

Thanks
ajay

We have been asking on this thread for a while now. No one will answer us.

Hey guys, sorry for thedelay. The new plates should be available by Jan 1, 2012. I know its a wait and I apologize, just want to run them through the paces. We may be changing the 6.5 inch plate and shrink it down to 6 inches.

Better off safe then sorry .I would tend to agree on changing the 6.5 BP down too the 6 inch pad I feel the trend is moving away from these large pads that are out . Large pads play nicer on a rotary .

Great point, Adam. It does seem that smaller pads are becoming more of the "in" thing -- and it makes sense considering that the cars coming to market have smaller panels with more and more curves, all of which make the use of large pads more difficult and less ideal.

Is that really the reason? Of course the pad-size reasoning is different between rotary and DA, but I thought the trend to smaller DA pad usage was because everyone does more correction than in the old days, and the correction is more important to them than the coverage area of the larger pad.

I just want them for bumpers and pillars. Pad size was more of a issue with the weaker DA's. Now there are stronger machines and MF pads that help out more.

I think it's probably a combination of both of those reasons.

The new plates will be sold in a "Kit" form, meaning the gearplate, and the 2 different size plates.

Yeah, but that's what I'm saying--back in the day when all we had was weak-sauce original PC's, all the pads were 6.5-7", and now that we have all these stronger machine options, the pads are more likely to be 5"-5.5-6" which is the opposite of what you would expect.

I'm also saying that it's because the expectations have changed, people never expected to get huge correction out of a DA (except maybe on a 4" pad) so preference was for a large pad to cover a lot of area quickly; if you wanted heavy correction you had to go to a rotary. But now with Surbuf/MF, stronger machines, M105 etc., people can and expect to correct with a DA, so they want smaller pads to do it with.

Or maybe I'm all wrong with this.

I will be at SEMA and in the Autogeek booth at 2pm on Thursday if anyone wants to stop by.

I don't want to start anything here (nor I have any bad intention), but it appears that instead of the new 4" BP Flex users would be better off with 3" BP to go with 4" pads.

Pairing 4" BP with 4" pad means one has to be extremely carefull not to inflict damage to the paint by accidentally touching the paint with the BP.

.. my 0.2 cents

:awman:

If they had a 5 inch plate, I'd be all over it so I could use all my 5.5 pads.
