What’s the best way to detail an auto outdoors? Is this possible? The problem is sun & dew. I want to use a swirl remover, finishing polish, sealant and then a wax. Vehicle doesn’t need to be clayed. Sun is there as of 9:00 AM and by the time I get to the sealant (12 hour cure time) I have to deal with dew. Can I do it in steps using an outdoor cover (high quality) over the span of 2 days? If so, should I cover after swirl or finishing polish? Do I wash before I start the next day? Can I apply the sealant in the sun? Help……….

Have you considered picking up a pop up tent? Especially if you detailing the mini cooper, it could help out greatly.

Yes it's the Mini which came off the assembly line April 16th. BMW gave me a gift with their final detail of minor swirls. I've used a couple of coats of Pinnacle Souveran but I want to get a sealant on before the winter. A tent is a limited option...you haven't seen my wife pull into the driveway.

even with a tent I still would have the dew after dusk......12 hour cure time

Typically it's not the sun but the surface temperature that's the real problem. One product that performs well in both sun and shade is Poorboy's World EX-P paint sealant.

Poorboy's EX-P Pure Sealant: Poorboy’s EX-P is revolutionary in the world of paint sealants. poorboys paint sealant, car paint sealant, clear coat

In the North as fall approaches the angle of the sun changes and is less intense. Knowing this it allows more time to work in direct sun because the surface temperature is allot cooler that during the summer.

If you don't have time to do the entire car do it in sections. There's no written rule how you approach this, it's what works for you.

Yea but would a pop-up tent, 10x10, work for a larger suv or truck?? Should I get a bigger pop up tent? If yes, can it be assembled by one man quickly?

:iagree: EX or EXP are my go-to waxes right now for just this reason.

Wanting to try UPGP. Wipe on-walk away seems like a great adaptation in the heat.

any appreciable time outside and contaminents could get on top of the paint and into the dew. Best to rewash before moving to the next step.

Definitely not. I have a 12x12 and it doesn't even fit suvs and trucks under it. But, you can always have something to place the tent legs on, like bricks, cinder blocks, or anything else that will work. It will give you the lift you need to pull the vehicle in.

Shade, and products that don't require cure times. If it takes more than a day, expect to wash again. my 2cents.

The new Megs Ultimate Paste Wax claims not to dry up even when applied under direct sunlight. I usually detail my car early in the morning, right beofre sunrise. By the time I remove the wax, there's enough sunshine to see the waxed areas.

Is a tent on bricks the best solution for a mobile detailer who needs shade?

Sounds like a big scratch waiting to happen. All it will take is one nice breeze and that thing is coming down if it's not secured to the bricks. My suggestion is to set up your canopy on a day with zero wind, set it with the legs centered on top of the cinder blocks and using a sharpie, mark the holes in the feet on the top of the cinder blocks. Get a masonry bit and then drill through the blocks where you marked the hole locations. Then you can set the canopy up on top of the blocks and then drop some bolts down through the canopy feet and through the blocks and hand tighten some nylock nuts on to the end of the bolts. This will take roughly 15 minutes to set up after the first time and will keep the canopy from being blown against the vehicle on a breezy day. A strong wind however will still cause you trouble.
