I tried them on a rotary. Long story short, they don't work well with a rotary either, IMO. Random orbital with MF pads or nothing. You are exactly right in your analysis. Forced rotation of any kind is not what you want with MF pads.I thought it had something to do with not getting the benefit of the MF because if you don't ocillate the pad one side of the tuft is always matted down against the pad and not on the paint. Part of what makes the MF so effective IIRC is that there is so much more surface area than a foam pad, so you can get a lot more product in contact with the paint, and you lose some of this if you lay the tufts down, which is also the reason you use compressed air to fluff them back up.
