This is my third incursion into polishing...
This one was pretty bad swirled... I even think it was buffer trails or maybe it was washed with sand.... but :nomore:

The idea was to get it in good shape only as it's a daily driver.

Steps:
Towels: Meg's Supreme Shine / Peak PKC0FM Microfiber Waffle Weave Drying Towel
Wash: 3M Car Wash Shampoo
Clay: 3M Perfect-it Claybar
Polishing:
- Polish: Meg's Ultimate Compound
- Pads: LC Kompressor Tangerine/Cyan HT 6" / LC HT 4" for polishing / LC Kompressor Gold (waxing)
- Backing Plate: LC
Polisher: GG 6" ROP
LSP: Collinite #885
Time to complete: about 16 hours ( 2 sundays)

All the car was done with the LC kompressor tangerine pads, but the pads got destroyed in the process. Under panels and front bumper was polished with the LC Kompressor Cyan pad.
I now regret not getting the entire car with the cyan pad, tangerine was great but it didn't provide enough cut and cyan should have left a more defect free paint.

Now to the pics! (a lot of it)

The meal!
The pads are really gone (3rd car only)... it's worse than it seems in the pictures because slats are almost completely ripped underside.

That thing was swirled like crazy. Good job on bringing it back! Also, thanks for my new desktop wallpaper! :xyxthumbs:

You're welcome.... beautiful, isn't it ?

Very nice! I am guessing you meant Collinite #845? Not #885.

I stand corrected. I must have missed that. Stunning beading with it I see though! :xyxthumbs:

Yes, really nice beading, it usually beads like that for about 3 weeks then starts to decline....
It's a very nice wax... but hard to work and the smell isn't good, but I already got used to all the cons and do think the pros are very worth it.

Talk about an optical illusion with those last two beading shots.

Excellent job.:xyxthumbs:

I was also impressed to see that it was actually making it looks as perfect spheres of water. :props:

Speaking of, your creativity is above your camera capability. You sir, could use a DSLR.

For example: If you took another beading shot and stopped down the aperture for a long field of view, your background would also be in focus. THAT would make a cool shot.

Very nice results. My Kompressors also tore up like that very quickly, they were a once and done thing for me.

Geez Thanks!!
Well, I do like a lot to take photos and play with all the configurations my camera allows...
I do really want to get some tripod and a DSLR or at least a pocket zoom camera, but this polishing hobby I just started is draining all my money right now....
But it's true... a better camera is on the top of my "to buy" list....

Of course, to be able to play with a DSLR I would still have to learn a lot about how to set everything up....
Your idea for this beading photo is very cool indeed! :dblthumb2:

Thanks man!

I'm done with them too. I already ordered a MF kit and a bunch of flat low profile ht pads to replace them.

But I might say that I really think this tear issue is related to DA polisher.... what polisher do you use ?

I think when compressed the pad's slats gets still while the base is moving because of the vibration from the DA's.... and I think this movement ends up tearing it from the base.....

Canon & Nikon Digital SLR Camera and Lens Reviews at The-Digital-Picture.com

I have a Canon Digital Rebel T3i. With a little one on the way we want to able to take good pictures. Using it for detailing is a nice plus. Love it!

On the 50/50, did you use the Cyan or Tangerine HT? I can definitely see some marring in the 50/50, but MUCH improved.

Nice job! :dblthumb2:

Tasty camera! One day I'll get one like this, but maybe only when I visit the US again... I live in Brazil and our import tax is 60% so this would be just overkill... If I can find a promotion on air tickets, I could buy one round trip to the us, buy this camera and it would probably be only a little more expensive (if at all) then buying it here or paying import tax..... But I would have traveled too... =]]]

Tangerine pad and yes, It does have marring. I completely forgot to take flash pictures from the area I did with the cyan pad but it looked great...... oh boy... lost an opportunity to learn something valuable...
As a side note, when I did my Red VW Gol with Ultimate Polish / Tangerine Kompressor pad I could also see marring.... how come is that ?
As I understand Tangerine pads / Ultimate Polish is already a low aggressiveness combo, right ?
While on a Fiat Punto (silver), flash reflection was just very well defined with UP/Tangerine pad..... was this because of the color ? Or because of the different paint type ?
What should I do to avoid this marring ? Step down to crimson pad with VW paints ?

The black one was pretty bad swirled, really. I think to get all of them out maybe I would need a rotatory or maybe to already have my Meg's MF kit here.

I'll appreciated a little help on about this....

.
What I would gather is you were polishing soft paint with the VW's. People rave about the finish of HT pads, but I've said it countless times, HT pads do not finish well at all on soft paint. Ultimate polish is very light and shouldn't cause any marring, so you can attribute that to the HT pad(most likely). Try the crimson pad and see what happens. I would avoid HT Cyan/Tangerine on soft paint. Also, kompressor pads are not the best pads to use on a DA. They're more geared for rotaries.

With the Fiat, it's almost impossible to see marring on silver, even if it's there. Or, it could have been hard paint, and the HT pads finished well.

I'll follow your suggestion and try crimson with both UP and UC on my red VW to check what's going on.....
Also, probably next weekend, I have another Fiat Punto, but black, booked and we'll be able to tell about the hard or soft paint matter...

As a side note, I'll create a topic about it..... but everybody using Ultimate Polish should wash or use pre-wax cleaner before LSP... I didn't and after only a month collinite's #885 beading already dropped a lot. I can't tell about Ultimate Compound on this issue just yet.

Oh boy.... so I need to get some regular flat low profile pads........ Meghan, bogo ? LoL...

All my pads (besides MF kit), are HT..... I first bought the kompressors, realized it was a bad choice and bought HT Flat Low profile pads... all of them yet to arrive.
But I do want to get a bunch of open cell flat pads too... they will make it to my next shopping cart for sure.

Great photos!

Thanks Meghan!! :dblthumb2:
