Optimum Power Clean for wheel/tires?

Would it be harmful if I don't rinse if off with a stream of water? I know it doesn't need to be rinsed off when used for the interior (leather/vinyl), but for wheels and tires, it says to rinse off. Would using water in a spray bottle be enough as far as rinsing off wheels and tires?

Thanks.

Sounds like you're doing rinseless washes. I just picked up a 1gallon round-up chemical sprayer for this purpose. I think using something like this would be sufficient, but to answer your question I would rinse off.

I always use Zep Purple (which is available OTC at HD or Lowes) at 4:1 and it does an amazing job on tires. I've run out so I used OPC at 3:1 on my wife's tires and I was quite disappointed in how it performed compared to the ZP. I love OPC for a lot of things, but tires is not one of them. Especially when you can get a gallon of ZP for about $10 and not pay shipping, not to mention it performs better in my opinion having tried both.

Richy, have you ever tried ARO on tires?

Yes, I have. It was good too, but it's damned expensive. I'll tell you what I reserve my ARO for, and that is Convertible Tops. It does an amazing job at cleaning them!! For my $$, you can't beat the performance/value of Zep Purple.:dblthumb2:

ZP, isn't that dangerous if it gets on wheels?

No, not at 4:1. I am usually doing the tires last in the wells/wheels/tires routine, so it is the product that dwells the least amount of time. I use it at 4:1 on engines too with great results.

I have tried several "Tire cleaners" and have had the best luck with OPC 3:1/5:1(have both mixtures set-up for severity of dirtiness/grime of the tire application)and a good contoured tire brush.
I've seen you mention this Zep-Purple often Richy.I'll have to remember the next trip to HD,to pick some up and give'r a try.

Richy, are you using the new or old formula OPC? I use it straight on the tires all the time. I don't detail nearly as much as you, so I can get away with using it straight. It works very well on tires for me. Plus, Dr G. gave me 2 free gallons of the new formula OPC. :righton:

I'm an ARO user for tires. OPC didn't work nearly as well on tires for me the time I tried it. ARO is 25$ a gallon for concentrate if I recall correctly.

Richy, I'm going to have to try the zep. Have you tried brown royale?

OPC works well for me especially without much agitation but have not tried Zep. I have never had luck with ARO.

OPC is unique in that it does not look it is working as you apply but when you rinse you see a lot of brown come off.

Mothers All Wheel and Tire cleaner works nice too (equaled OPC in a side by side test) but obviously is more expensive since it is ready to use strength.

It's really interesting how people get such varied results. Not saying it's a bad thing, just interesting.

Al, do you use OPC straight most of the time on tires?

Old formula I got here on BOGO a while back. I'm not using it straight. Especially compared with Zep; that's just pissing away money as far as I'm concerned...even if I did get 2 free gallons, LOL.

Chris, trust me on this one buddy..I won't steer you wrong.

I have. It was OK. I tried to get some last year when we were in Florida but it was too far off our path to go. I would have picked up several gallons if it had been closer. Tire and wheel cleaner to me should be dirt cheap. If they need work, I break out the Megs WB, which is also very reasonably priced and works wonders.

I've been using Duragloss #703 Whitewall Tire cleaner lately only because I got a killer deal on it. However, I'm starting to consider Zep citrus again. $11 for a gallon locally, cut it 4:1 and you're looking at what - $2.75/gallon or $.02/ounce. Hmm...

PM me your address. I'm gonna send you a sample of the new formula OPC and I'd like you to compare it straight on tires with zep purple at 4:1. Will you do that? :D

I would say about 50% of the time.

Id like to see how zep works also. I just picked up some Folex at HD today and was looking at Zep.

Interesting how nobody is talking abt AG CWC - i have been using it for a while now it works great on wheels
