Porter Cable 7424 Broke

Flash, sausage fingers, you know there were threads all over the place about the griots breaking left and right when they first came out. No need to to do a search, it is common knowledge.

lol its Dana!!!! Im the MAN

It is actually from making the tool work beyond the limits it was designed to do. It originated as a finishing sander for wood and now is just a polisher, a polisher is made to do very little defect removal.

We are all aware how and when PC originated. Some people just love it and that is fine. This discussion is about some issues certain batch of PC has a defective shaft or it appears so.I am sure PC will stand behind their product that is in warranty period. Which DA is better then next is a different topic and it should be posted as such.

Please do not call me him, I know of him and have spoke with him through pm's other than that do not converse with him.

Question....

Who cares how many Griots machines used to break?

We are talking about recently. And recently the PC had been having some issues with shafts.

Just saying....

So you are not Dana, but :welcome:

Sounds like you have been around the detailing world long enough to know the players.

PC's do not have the same track record as the GG machines. GG have not been made anywhere near as long as PC's and more of them have come up broken. PC makes great tools that can take a lot of abuse. I'm not saying this was user error, but it is entirely possible that it wasn't the machine, rather the user....

I really have not heard of any issues with PC's. I have an original 7424 I have used hard without a single issue, and I know my experience is not uncommon. The PC has a reputation for being bullet proof.

Originals were made in good old USA.

Was it just the assembly that was done in the states? Where are the actual parts being manufactured?
Can't answer that , but I bet quality inspection was in place to see that only quality parts go in. When you assemble in Mexico things are somewhat different and I speak from experience.I spent 2 yrs every 2nd wk down there. They are not as proud as we are about quality just as long as it's done. As I stated earlier in the post it appears that shaft is to hard, but again someone will get to the bottom of the problem and it will be corrected just don't know how many units were shipped that way.

Curious to how many power tools you own and what brands.

LOT,, I was a Maintenance Supervisor for 35 yrs in Major Hospital equipment Manufacturer.
Tools and equipment I know, and worked with them little longer before some of the guys here were born. Just facts my friend.
As far as detailing I am a greenhorn. Just work on my own cars. Here is where I learn from the PROS.

Again, we are not comparing the first generation Griots with the made in the US PC. We are comparing the third or so generation Griots with the current made in China/Mexico Porter Cable. A simple search in this forum will reveal that in the last two months there have been something like 8 or 9 PC issues---more so in the same period of time than any other DA buffer. This is the reality in the present; if you prefer to live in the past, fine. Of course, no question the Meguiars has had the most issues with the current generations.

Fair enough, so you should understand that if you use a tool beyond it's designed limits that parts do break. I also am much older than most in here as well, just stating facts as well.

Once Again?!?!?!?!? Wtf?

Dig me up some threads stating otherwise smartguy :dig:

:iagree:It seems Griots is starting to get a handle on quality control of the second generation machine , where as PC here lately is headed in the opposite direction.
