So How Do YOU ONR?

I'm using the LC grout sponge and am using a grit guard. I don't feel comfortable not using one. Even without one I don't think I could only use 2 gallons. Now I do use a separate rinse bucket, so I'm not recycling the water. Maybe thats how people are able to only use 2 gallons. The water level in my rinse bucket generally stays the same.
 
I've refined my process a bit now. I usually pre-rinse or pressure wash any dust and large grit off the car, then do a rinseless wash on a per panel basis (with a pre-spray of UWW+ if the panel has heavy road film). When I do it this way, I use only one bucket, though still with a grit guard - the pre-wash ensures that there are no loose particles to be worried about. I can clean the car with about a gallon and a half to two gallons (though the car in question is a small hatchback, which I'm sure helps :D). Oh, wash media is a pair of noodle (chenille microfiber) mitts - after two passes (with a flip of the mitt for the second pass), it gets scrubbed on the grit guard, wringed out, resoaked, then allowed to drip in the bucket for a few seconds (so as not to waste too much solution) before getting put on back on the next panel.

(I know people will say that I'm missing the point of rinseless if I do a pre-soak. Well, we don't have any water restrictions over here, it doesn't really add much to the time spent if I do the pre-soak, and I do feel that this is a safer way of doing a rinseless wash. As for why not just do a conventional wash - I just like doing rinseless washes more than conventional ones.)
 
I've sort of redefined my process and still trying to dial in with what works best for me and what I feel comfortable with. My Acura's paint is soft...you breath to close to the car and it will swirl up. So here's the process I did yeserday...

I use a Round-up Chemical sprayer with just plain tap water to pre-soak the car. Then I'll take a spray bottle filled with clay lube strength ONR and pre-soak the panels. I paid more attention to the lower panels. I filled up 4 gallons of water with 2oz of ONR in my wash bucket. I filled up 4 gallons of fresh water with 1oz of ONR in my rinse bucket. I had another rinse bucket with just 3 gallons of fresh water. It maybe a bit overkill, but it seemed to leave the wash bucket noticeable less contaminated. The two rinse buckets had a ton of dirt. I used a GG with the wash bucket and the rinse bucket with 1oz of ONR in it. To dry I used my Metro Vac n Blo.

As mentioned before, I used the LC grout sponge for the panels. I also used a MF wash mitt for behind the door handles. I did the tires last. I found that instead of trashing my MF wash mitt on the tires, I just used two terry towels, one for the tires and one for the wheels. I also used the Daytona Speed Master wheel brush, along with the Mothers tire and wheel brush combo.

I guess it makes sense how people only use 2 gallons of water if they're only using one bucket. Like I said before, I do see that the water level in my rinse buckets stay fairly the same.
 
Maybe you should try UWW+ as a rinseless wash. 1oz to 3 gallons and the stuff is way slicker than ONR. A bit pricey to use as waterless. But not to bad.
 
I'll look into it. I need to use up this ONR...I got a gallon of it with not even a quarter gone.

I agree - I used it this past weekend, and I was floored by how slick it left the paint, in comparison to both ONR and DP Rinseless.

I have used ONR for a couple yrs now, even if ultima is slicker,etc., the price comparison is not even in the ball park. It wouldnt be worth it to buy ultima for a waterless wash. If ONR cost that much for a rinseless wash I wouldnt even use that.

ONR 128oz = $40 vs. Ultima 128oz = $152-$168. ONR 4x less

Even with ultima diluting 1oz to 3 gallons i have never needed more than 2 gallons of mixed ONR solution per wash and I clean the paint and wheels with it. Even so...

1.5 oz of ONR to make 3 gallons (comparing to ultima) makes 85 washes per gallon ($40) + ($40) for another 85 washes =170 washes for $80 vs. Ultima 128 washes for $152-$168. ONR..42 more washes for half the cost.

Personally id never do a waterless wash, partly due to the,fact my car is parked outside and I dont doubt the products results but too pricey for a wash. I don't think they are comparable, maybe vs. Opti clean?

I don't think anyone is disputing that ONR is better-priced as a rinseless wash than UWW+ :) We're just passing along experiences on having used the product in that fashion, and leave it up to each reader to decide whether the added slickness (which is definitely noticeable) is worth it or not.

So it works out a little under three times the cost, per gallon of solution, for UWW+ vs ONR. However, the absolute price difference is only $0.28 per gallon, or (if you use two gallons per wash), $0.56 per wash - and at least in my case, I am seriously considering switching over to UWW+ for rinseless washing, as I feel that the added slickness is worth spending that half-dollar.

Even when compared to a traditional soap, UWW+ is not tat bad.

Well, if you double the ratio like 3 oz to 3 gallons would it be slicker than that of UWW+ ?...... I have still uave 2 gallons of onr....lol......

And have anyone tried the Chemical Guys hose free rinseless wash?

I've not used it at that dilution, but I've found that even at QD dilution (1:16), ONR doesn't leave the paint all that slick.

Those cents add up lol thats y i just was trying to show how many washes you get and cost. Since rhe usable solution is somewhat irrelevant since consumers will use 1oz for 3gallons per wash vs 1oz for 2 gallons per wash (if im making sense). Then if u want super gloss n slickness use optimum instant detailer & gloss enhancer which can be diluted 3:1 which gives the sought slickness for still a fraction of the cost of uww. Just a thought.
 
I just ONR'd for the first time and so far I'm impressed! I didn't want to bust out the garden hose due to the muck and snow in my yard right now. So, I used a pressure sprayer with about 1.5 to 2 ounces of ONR to 1 liter of water. I pre-soaked the panel and then slowly washed the panel with a green microfiber chenille wash mitt. My bucket of ONR was 2 oz to 3-4 gallons of water with a grit guard in the bottom.

To dry I blotted the panel with one of those monster sized purple microfibers they were giving away with orders a few months back.

Does anyone have any suggestions beyond what I did? I was nervous as heck the entire time since my truck is only a week old! I'm kind of anxious to see what it looks like when I wake up in the morning!

Shawn...what I'm gathering is basically "different strokes for different folks." I don't see anything wrong with your method. So far, everytime I've ONR'd or DP RW&G, I have been nervous. If I want to check for any marring or swirls, I'll use my Brinkmann. If you don't have one, I recommend getting one. Have you put a sealant or a good coat of wax on your car?

No, not yet :( I have a ton of product lined up but the weather has been awful since I picked the truck up. The truck is too big (is that possible?) or the garage is too small to do it indoors. The garage is top priority for the new house next year...
 
I understand...maybe when the weather warms up, you could take your truck to a do-it-yourself car wash and do an ONR there and then wax the truck. Maybe clay and then wax. Thats probably what I would do. Get you some buckets with the lids, fill up the buckets with hot water and then go out there. Alot of places don't like it when you bring your own stuff, but I say screw it...LOL! You've got more important things to worry about.

I have a full itinerary planned already for it. Wash (or ONR), IronX, Clay, and then Wax. There are a few scuffs from pre-delivery which I kept my mouth shut about. I'd rather fix them myself than let the dealer attempt to do it. Once those are fixed it will be getting hit with BFWD and 845 until the spring.
