To go METRO VAC or NO?

AG is screwing with me again by putting the metro vacs on sale...i think its a conspiracy to make sure i never have any money, but thats another story.

I have a few questions about it first though.

I have a 5.5 peak HP shop vac with detachable blower. I'm worried i may be losing some power since the Metro is only 4 HP. The portability and a simple switch to change to a blower are very appealing though.

Secondly, WHICH vac would you recommend, there is the wall mount with optional dolly, there is the portable, the full size...both of which have the same HP (whats the pro's and con's of both?) *sigh* so many choices

So what do you guys think? Any shop vac turned metro users wanna chime in?
 
I just bought the full size when it was on sale. I'll let u know how I like it Thursday. Corey(CEE DOG) review on the full size Vac-N-Blow was very good and showcases it very nicely.
 
While I have no doubt Metro products are quality products but they are very expensive, expensive on the same order of magnitude as the Makita 9227 vs Flex PE14-2-150.

Sometimes most of us are forced to weigh the additional cost to functionality and if we're truly able to justify the additional expenditure.

  • Metro Master Blaster - $395
  • Electric Leaf Blower - $60
  • Metro Full Size Vacuum - $329
  • Commercial Shop Vac - $250
I'm not disputing whether or not the more costly Metro products aren't high quality but the cost to function ratio is very high.....
 
Same question here. Is there a good electric leaf blower that provides the same HP/CFM/MPH etc... of the metro master blaster that is priced around $100 or so? If so, dods the metro blaster do anything better that causes it to be so pricey? Seems to me that 'air flow' is 'air flow' assuming the specs are similar. Then again, I know nothing about this type of equipment.

I did buy a $30 electric blower from amazon recently which I think does 150MPH and is good, but can't really be used to dry an entire car/small suv (though is fine for getting in the cracks). So i'm wondering if a $100, 250MPH (or whatever) electric blower would be that much better than mine/close enough to the metro blaster...

Honestly from what ive SEEN a 250 mph leaf blower do, and from what ive seen as far as videos go of the Metro in its blower form, i think the 250 MPH blower would remove more water. It has a larger head and i believe (dont hold me to it) blows harder.

I'm thinking that the metro may have an advantage when it comes to SIZE...you can tuck it away in its cute little bag and you dont have some big ox of a shop vac rolling around (hah ask me how i know). But i have seen a nice toolbox sized shopvac (literally looks like a tool box) for $99 with the same HP or more if i remember correctly. It however has no wheels. Ive also seen some smaller sized Kobalt shop vacs (i believe they were Kobalt) for much less. But I dont know if either convert to blowers.

I know i wouldn't drop over $300 for a blaster...now IT might outdo the 250 mph leaf blower...but you can buy 2 or 3 leaf blowers for that price lol. But again, they are pretty big and bulky. I think if i were to get one it would be the full size Metro, but i'd have to get a really nice deal and see how well it performs first.

Just read it...well i think the suction looks about the same as a shop vac...i just purchased a DM 1600 extractor so i wouldn't be too worried about that for extracting, i dont really find shop vacs to be that great of extractors anyway to be honest, work in a pinch but...i prefer a good hot water extractor.

The size is the biggest selling factor to me along with the ton of attachments and very long hose. Not sure i can justify $250 for it though...
 
I cant speak for the metro vac and blow but I can on the master blaster. Ill be the first to hop on a cheaper product if the results close. However I had a chance to try out a MB @ oldtigers (jim) house and was blown away by the power of this machine along with the manuverability of it. Up til now I too have been using a leaf blower up til now, When AG offered them for 269.00 monday I had to hop on it.
In my opionion the downside to drying with the metro vac and blo is that your using the same hose for both. If any grit is trapped in the hose from vaccuming, when you go to dry you would essentially be shooting grit at the vehicle at a high rate of speed. So basically I dont see the value in the vac bc I dont think it will do anybetter than my rigid but I do however see a huge benefit in the MB over my leafblower.
 
I don't have the Metro Vac, but I do use my shop vac once in a blue moon for the same purpose. I almost exclusively use my air compressor, an air wand and many other attachments to get water out of those crevices. I couldn't be any happier!! :xyxthumbs:

At the price of a Metro Vac I could buy another nice air compressor new or used (from the "bay" site).
 
I have the full size Metro Vac N Blo Sr. I also have a Shop Vac. The Shop Vac has more rated HP, but that's not the tell tell on vacuums. The Metro is what I always go to for getting a vehicle really clean. It is a very nice vac. However, it isn't for wet use.

The blowing...I would have to say I use the leaf blower more than the blow of the Metro I have. I would like a Master Blaster though.

the thing with the metro vac is the amount of lift they have,they have aextremely large amount of lift for such a small vac. ritchy did a review on his shop vac that explains the lift factor better than i
