Happy New Years from Hollister.
I've been browsing this site the past few months, watching videos, reading posts, studying manuals... there's lots of good information here and I want to thank everyone for all of their time and effort.
It's not too often that Professional people share their secrets with us amateurs, yet alone post them on a web site.
I'm going to dive in head first, but feel pretty confident from all the reading/watching and besides, I have a "test car" my daughters have already pretty much trashed, so that's a plus.
At out house sits:
2012 Genesis R-Spec Sedan - OEM Black Noir Pearl (Mine)
2008 Infiniti M45 - OEM Pearl Ivory White (Wife's)
2007 Hyundai Elantra - OEM Silver (Daughter's)
All cars are garaged and we live in Northern California (not much rain, no snow, very hard water)
I'm about done putting my Detailer's kids through college now, and need to start working on paying for one of my own kids Med School, so I just bought:
At AutoGeekOnline.net:
1 WG-FLEX-3401-V - Wolfgang FLEX XC3401 Concours Polishi $349.99
1 GG-1010-BOGO - 2 Qty Grit Guard $9.99
1 WG-2000 - 16 oz. Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer $19.99
1 SAMPLES - One Free Sample Per Order 0.00 (Wolfgang Auto Bathe)
1 newyear2012 - 20% New Year Sale -$75.99
At Costco:
CR SPOTLESS DIC-20 De-Ionizing Spotless Water System $379.99
Bonus: (2) sets quick connects $0.00
Bonus: (2) bags of resin (R2-20) $0.00
15% Costco/AmEx Discount -$57.00
Washing supplies from the local auto stores:
2ea. 64 oz. bottles Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash $9.99 ea.
2ea. Lake Country Foam Wash Sponges $12.00 pair
2ea. 100% Real Wool Mits $32.00 pair
2ea. 5 Gallon buckets (for the AG BOGO Grit Guards) $6.00 ea.
Other misc hoses, fittings and the like...
I still need to work on the interior and tire supplies, but I think I'm headed in the right direction.
I've spent a good hunk of money so far, but I'm hoping I can cut down (or eliminate) the 2x a year $250.00+ each I would spend detailing the Infiniti and Genesis.
The Elantra still gets to go through the drive-through-wash for $8.00 a pop, but I get to use it as my "practice car"
If the guys that have been Professionally Detailing my cars are reading this, please note, I paid my dues over the last 20+ years of driving luxury cars but now my job allows me more free time.
I don't like golf so I have the time to learn how to do this on my own.
Think of it this way, if I suck at it someone on EBay is going to get a heck of a deal on a barely used FLEX XC3401 VRG, and some lucky Detailer is going to get to make big $$ fixing what I did wrong.
If I don't suck at it, I get to take up a new hobby that doesn't involve hunting for little white round objects and cursing at holes in the ground and, as an added bonus, I get to spend a lot more time and money learning how to do this job right.
Happy New Years to all!
