Happy New Years from Hollister.

I've been browsing this site the past few months, watching videos, reading posts, studying manuals... there's lots of good information here and I want to thank everyone for all of their time and effort.
It's not too often that Professional people share their secrets with us amateurs, yet alone post them on a web site.

I'm going to dive in head first, but feel pretty confident from all the reading/watching and besides, I have a "test car" my daughters have already pretty much trashed, so that's a plus.

At out house sits:

2012 Genesis R-Spec Sedan - OEM Black Noir Pearl (Mine)
2008 Infiniti M45 - OEM Pearl Ivory White (Wife's)
2007 Hyundai Elantra - OEM Silver (Daughter's)

All cars are garaged and we live in Northern California (not much rain, no snow, very hard water)

I'm about done putting my Detailer's kids through college now, and need to start working on paying for one of my own kids Med School, so I just bought:

At AutoGeekOnline.net:
1 WG-FLEX-3401-V - Wolfgang FLEX XC3401 Concours Polishi $349.99
1 GG-1010-BOGO - 2 Qty Grit Guard $9.99
1 WG-2000 - 16 oz. Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer $19.99
1 SAMPLES - One Free Sample Per Order 0.00 (Wolfgang Auto Bathe)
1 newyear2012 - 20% New Year Sale -$75.99

At Costco:
CR SPOTLESS DIC-20 De-Ionizing Spotless Water System $379.99
Bonus: (2) sets quick connects $0.00
Bonus: (2) bags of resin (R2-20) $0.00
15% Costco/AmEx Discount -$57.00

Washing supplies from the local auto stores:
2ea. 64 oz. bottles Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash $9.99 ea.
2ea. Lake Country Foam Wash Sponges $12.00 pair
2ea. 100% Real Wool Mits $32.00 pair
2ea. 5 Gallon buckets (for the AG BOGO Grit Guards) $6.00 ea.
Other misc hoses, fittings and the like...

I still need to work on the interior and tire supplies, but I think I'm headed in the right direction.
I've spent a good hunk of money so far, but I'm hoping I can cut down (or eliminate) the 2x a year $250.00+ each I would spend detailing the Infiniti and Genesis.
The Elantra still gets to go through the drive-through-wash for $8.00 a pop, but I get to use it as my "practice car"

If the guys that have been Professionally Detailing my cars are reading this, please note, I paid my dues over the last 20+ years of driving luxury cars but now my job allows me more free time.
I don't like golf so I have the time to learn how to do this on my own.

Think of it this way, if I suck at it someone on EBay is going to get a heck of a deal on a barely used FLEX XC3401 VRG, and some lucky Detailer is going to get to make big $$ fixing what I did wrong.

If I don't suck at it, I get to take up a new hobby that doesn't involve hunting for little white round objects and cursing at holes in the ground and, as an added bonus, I get to spend a lot more time and money learning how to do this job right.

Happy New Years to all!

Happy New Year to you and welcome to the forum!!! Sounds like you'll be havin alot of fun here soon!

:welcome: To Autogeek Online Tim!

Happy New Year!!

Now that's what I call an introduction and it parallels your detailing supplies and desire to become your own detailer.

Correctly detailing your own vehicles is a great way to learn new skills giving you the personal satisfaction you're looking for.

Many here detail as a hobby, some do it as a sideline, while others earn their livelihood detailing for others.

Autogeek is a friendly place to hand out and the wealth of available information is limitless, all for the asking...

PS.... I like detailing much better than golf but I wouldn't say it costs less....

Welcome to AutogeekOnline!

:welcome:

Thanks for all of the warm welcomes and offers of help in my new hobby, they are all much appreciated!:dblthumb2:

I finished out my "Startup" supplies with :

Mike Phillip's Art of Detailing EBook
Wolfgang Tire & Wheel Kit
A few Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay Kits (with lube)
Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax
Lexol Leather Kit
Daytona Speed Master Wheel Brush
XMT Polishing Pad Conditioner
Stoner Glass Wipes
Autogeek Foam Gun
CarPro Wool Wash Mitt
Fire Hose Nozzle and a couple dozen various Microfiber Towels
I already have a blower, so that's taken care of.

I think I'm ready to start practicing on the Elantra before I tackle the swirl job the Dealer gave me on my new Black Pearl 2012 Genesis R-Spec Sedan.
The car has already been to a local detailer (at the Dealers expense), but all they did was to Klasse Seal the car, making for nice and shiny swirls underneath. (at least it wasn't my $125 bucks).
Hey, if the detailer didn't do such a bad job, I would never have found this web site, so maybe after I'm done making it look nice I'll drive by and say Thanks!:xyxthumbs:

So, back to the Detailing How-To thread, reading all the posts from you experts and the Ebook of Mike showing me how to do it right.

I'll probably start a new thread posting my plan and asking for suggestions before I start, and thanks again for all the advice!

Welcome - I'm in Hollister as well and just starting the practice activity as well. Same equipment - Good luck!

Welcome! I feel silly, I didnt know Hollister was a city. Thought it was a made up name for the clothing line. :o

Pics of the genesis? I love those things.

Thanks for the welcome.

I fell in love with the 2012 Genesis R-Spec Sedan after mistaking one for another brand of much more expensive cars.
Mines a company car and I had a hard time convincing by boss that I really wanted a Huyndai and not a Mercedes E350.

Here a photo from before I re-badged it, just after tinting the windows.
I'll add more to my on-line album after the next wash/wax cycle and a good polishing with my new Flex 3401.

Here's a video for anyone that doesn't know what an R-Spec Sedan is.
429HP, 8-Speed Tranny and I'm getting 25MPG on the freeway, can't beat that!
(They could have done a better job at detailing it for the video...)
