Extreme Practice: What I did NOT do to a Chevy POS

Suicide Bambi? First time hearing it that way.Funny as heck. You have a good friend in Paw Paw's owner. Great write up and a good read. You have mad skills and a positive mental attitude.Happy trails...

I thought the write up was amazing. Fantastic work on the pick up! :props:

Great write up, I love to see projects that most people wouldn't try to tackle. Awesome results!

My favorite line: "I think God was its only detailer." Great work by the way. I love bringing them back from the dead. I bet you could hear Paw Paw saying, "Thank you sweet child. I thought I was done."

Sorry to hear about your Audi, but excellent work on that Chevy! Sometimes it's fun to work on a project like that; it's a totally unique kind of challenge.

Incidentally this truck reminds me a lot of my '98 S10 Blazer. I'd be lying if I said I miss that thing:

Very cool!

I think this is one of the best write-ups I've ever read just because of the unique perspective. Excellent pictures, descriptions, explanations and commentary put it over the top.

Thanks, Mike!!

I'm supposed to get my car back today or tomorrow, so this truck is available for your tv show if you still need some cool, rare gems! :xyxthumbs:

Nice to see ya back!

Thanks! It's nice to be back. I'd checked in from time to time, but was just busy with life. I hope to be a little more active from now on

Absolutely amazing work! You took a truck that was beat up and abused and turned it into something anyone would be proud to drive! Great work!

Thanks! Wow...over 1100 posts and just a member since June! I'm impressed!! :urtheman:

Great writeup and story telling :) I like that you keep things lighthearted and in perspective. I hope your Audi is mended soon :)

Thanks, Bill! I actually thought of you while I was trying to take some of those pictures. The lighting was so screwy. I knew you would know what I was doing wrong. :xyxthumbs:

Hi Laura,

What a great step by step review and writeup!

Sorry to see you and Bambi exchanged words and now you and your deer friend have gone separate ways......:(

Thanks! I have heard stories all my life about people hitting deer, and my experience was like all the others. She was standing by the road; I'd slowed down in case she bolted, but instead of running across the road in front of me, she ran right into me. The hit didn't feel too bad; there are pot holes that have jarred more than this did, and the first thought I had was, "That wasn't bad. I can probably buff out the damage." I stopped mainly because I wanted to see the deer. That's when I saw just how bad it was...However, the car was in better shape than the deer!!

Amazing write up LD! It was quite the enjoyable read. Great story and documentation. Oh, and not bad work for a girl!

Thanks, Ed. Destroyed the manicure on this one, too!

Great write up, I love to see projects that most people wouldn't try to tackle. Awesome results!

Thanks! These kind of projects are what I enjoy most. I'd starve if I had to do this for a living. I enjoy the detailing (especially the results), but honestly, I enjoy writing more. Something like this lets me do both - it's the best of both worlds.

Incidentally this truck reminds me a lot of my '98 S10 Blazer. I'd be lying if I said I miss that thing

That's funny! I had the Olds Bravada cousin. I hated that vehicle worse than any others I've ever had. So glad to see that go!

Nice job on the truck, and a very entertaining write up! Sorry about the Audi, I can understand your being upset over the ordeal.

Mike, that picture must have been from your "long hair" days, LOL!

WOW, I'm truely impressed. I thought it was a guy detailing until I saw the reflection pic. There are not many lady or if any at all that detail cars like you. Sometimes it feels like a sausage fest in these forums. Excellent work.:props:

Excellent write up! :xyxthumbs:

You presented it in a fun and yet techical manner, not to mention you kept the overall condition of the truck in perspective. It was never going to be a show stopper and yet with a LOT of TLC you were able to let it live in some glory.

Sometimes I think these types of challenges are more imprtant to see. It is what us normal folks out here see. We'd all love to work on a Lambo, Porsche or a Ferrari but realistically it's this type of vehicle we end up with.

BTW: Great choice on how to spend your weekend time :).

WoW :xyxthumbs:
Sorry to hear about the Audi.
Awesome job and nice write up too.

I agree.

This is a text book example of,

"Taking a car's paint to it's maximum potential"

Might not be a fancy new car, classic or exotic but it's going to look great driving down the road... at least for a little while...

I think Laura needs to create a business card to hand out and then pick only the cars she likes to work her magic on.

For cars she doesn't want to work on... a chance to perfect the art of turning away business...

:D

Nice work .... that roof shoot looks to have evidence of a re paint (those two or three little dimples)

This one

That was a fun read. The first pic of the truck compared to the last pic of the truck says it all though. Even without going all out on it, it was still a HUGE difference and for the better at that. :dblthumb2:

great work...

on a side note...when you say you hit a deer...do you mean a actual deer or is a deer some slang for a car/pole or something...

“At least no one was hurt.” tell the deer that ;\
poor deer, if your car got damaged so bad, imagine how the deer felt >.>

lastly, is it common for deers to be hit in Alabama?

oh yeah, great work on the truck, love the color
love the color/beading on your audi even more...

what LSP is on it?

What a great write-up. Your observations and realistic outcomes made for an entertaining read.

Sorry about the reason for the write up, but it sure is a great write up.:props: Thank you!

Thanks so much for all the kudos!

Thank you!

I did a write-up like this on a black BMW I did about a year ago and got some of the same comments. My neighbors think I'm completely insane. It's just something I enjoy doing. Some people like gardening; I like detailing. This forum makes it especially rewarding becuase I also enjoy sharing my experience with other interested people.

I think Laura needs to create a business card to hand out and then pick only the cars she likes to work her magic on.

I somewhat do that already, but instead of picking the cars I like, I pick the people I like :props:

I agree. I know it had been wrecked before, but I don't know how extensive the damage was. The front end isn't completely straight; it all fits together, but the hood, fender, & headlight alignment is different on the drivers side than on the passenger side.

It's funny you mention that, though. It's amazing how well you "learn a vehicle" while doing something like this.

Oh no, it was an actual White-tail doe. Probably about 90 lbs. And I don't like saying I hit her because I was actually slowing down to allow her room to run across the road in front of me. However, instead of going off into the woods on the other side, she charged right at me and hit me.

I have a feeling the deer didn't feel much of anything except maybe the thud.

It's extremely common to hit deer; not just in Alabama, but most places with a sizable deer population. According to a State Farm Insurance report, the odds of hitting one in Alabama is 1 in 163. West Virginia is the most likely place to hit one with 1:53 odds.

My go-to LSP is Optimum Spray Wax. I love it. It's easy and it lasts.
