I'm getting these exhaust tips with the Akrapovic exhaust. What would be my best option for protection?

Hi Mark...

Cool Tips!!!
(Are they for your ZO6?)

Besides taking care of the outer layer(s) of the Carbon Fiber, what is the material for the core (inside) of these tips...SS, Titanium.

May just have to find a metal polish that's compatible with your choice of a carbon-fiber protection product...

Shouldn't be that difficult. What does the manufacturer recommend? Maybe go from there...What do you think?

{There's also the "mounting-hardware" to consider}

Those are badasss. I don't see why OptiCoat wouldn't work? Definitely want something on them so you wont have to clean them aggressively.

It will work great, it is very heat tolerant too!

Hi Chris:

In your opinion:
Will a "metal polish or metal cleaner" (for upkeep/care of the inside of these tips) cause any deterioration, as it were, upon the Opti-Coated fiber-carbon exterior areas of these tips...That is, if one would Opti-Coat the CC'd, I presume, carbon-fiber surfaces of these tips?

Looks like it would be a rather tedious chore to keep them (metal care products...being somewhat abrasive, IMO) completely from ever touching the Opti-Coated surfaces.

Either that, or allow these tips metal core's "heated color" to be prevalent.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

:)

I should have been more clear everyone. I meant to only opti coat the CF, not the SS inserts. I could have bought titanium, but too expensive. I'll keep the SS inserts as clean as possible with non abrasive cleaners, because I don't want an abrasive metal polish anywhere near the CF.

Those are gorgeous - the whole Akrapovic line is pretty awesome.

I'd say Opti-Coat....

That's going to look sweet sticking out the back of the C6Z.... you doing any other rear fascia mods as well?

I think Opti Coat would be great and Chris already addressed my only concern which was the heat.

Mark please post a pic of the rest of the exhaust

Good plan, my man!! :dblthumb2:

Yep, they are sweet but not cheap.

Here's the one that fits my car. It's only $4K.

Thanks, the line is top of the line, but exoensive. I'm paying 2300 bucks for the exhaust.

$2,300 and $4,000 for an exhaust!!

The next thing you're going to tell me the tires on my Z06 are going to cost me $450.00 to $500.00 each!......OH, that's right, they do!!

I paid 2400 for my exhaust and I only have an S2000 but its a full titanium and only 4 lb's. I can imagine if I had a Z06 :xyxthumbs:

Congrats on the awesome looking exhaust tips though. What is your exhaust system made of?

Yep. They sure aren't cheap. Every time I get new tires for the TA I always have a heart attack. I should have never gone to 315s in the rear but they look so good and hook up so well at the track

And I thought my $800 (on special) B&B exhaust was expensive.

The full titanium version of mine is $4K!!! I'm just buying the slip on SS system that attaches to the mid-pipe.

Hey Bobby,

The way I look at it, 2K for tires that wear out, so why not 2K for an exhaust?!? :D

chris - how about chrome exhaust finishers?

Yes, it will bond to chrome.

Metal Polish and cleaners are quite abrasive and would likely remove OC quickly even by hand. Once coated, you should only need wash shampoo to clean.

Chris,

Should I opti-coat the stainless steel inside of the tip as well?
