So not only is this truck my first job of 2012, but it’s also the first of many detail collaborations to come with my friend and fellow detailer, Justin (Phishy4). It’s been a long time since I’ve worked alongside another detailer and I must say it was nice banging out a car in half the time it normally takes, leaving more time to relax on the weekends.

The owner, a client of Justin’s, recently purchased this new Taco and almost went with one of those dealer applied interior and exterior protection packages until Justin informed him he be paying for an overpriced wax and fabric protectant. After explaining the differences between the dealer applied junk and Opti-Coat the owner was sold and we scheduled the vehicle shortly after he took delivery.

The truck had arrived fairly clean but it was apparent that there was some light wash induced marring and that it would need a good 1-step polish to get her looking the way she should. I did my best to capture the wash induced marring but you know how it goes with light colored metallic. ;)

Process:

Wash – ONR
Wheels/tires – OPC and various brushes
Clay – Blackfire clay and ONR as lube
Paint correction – Optimum Polish II via GG6 and 5” Optimum MF polishing pads
Glass – Meguiar’s D120
Chrome – Mothers Chrome polish
Tire dressing – Meguiar’s Hyper Dressing
Opti-Coat applied to all paint & trim
Scotch Guard Fabric Protectant applied to carpets, matts, and seats

Cropped section of the above helps see the defects a little better, they were a lot worse than the pics show

Thanks for looking, :)

Looks great.

You can buy Scotchgard and better protectors in bulk at carpet cleaning distributor that are cheaper and work better. Instead of buying a consumer version which is way over-priced. Jon-Don Protectors Many dilute with water so you get much more product.

Great work as always Chad! Btw is that a carpro applicator I see you using to apply oc? Blasphemy lol :D

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the heads up! I've bought a few things from Jon-Don before but I didn't know about the Scotch Guard on this one until it arrived and just picked up a can locally. I had some 303 as well but we just went with this. ;)

LOL, it is indeed! Works much better than foam IMO. ;)

Great job as always Chad!! I'm always impressed with your work.

The paint just looks so wet. The pearl really pops as well.

Do you use less product when you're using the carpro applicator?

I'm going to have to try that foam applicator. I don't get very good results using the one that came with the OC. I got good results using a fresh MF instead but it's obvious I'm wasting product with this method.

Now that looks fancy right there. Great work Chad and Justin.:xyxthumbs:

Thanks again guys!

Marc, I feel it may use slightly more OC with the CarPro applicators but it's worth it IMO. We used 6cc for this truck. I should mentions that a MF applicator was used for the trim and that probably wasted a little more OC too. That's the only downside to the CarPro as it does't contour like foam will.
