New to the forums. Been hanging around and checking out some of the threads for a few months now, just recently able to join for some reason a mod never sent me a confirmation for signing up?

I've always enjoyed detailing cars. But now its getting more serious for me on taking care of my cars the right way. Purchased a Porter Cable 7424XP from here a few months back. Came with Pinnacle XMT Fine Swirl Removal and Pinnacle XMT Finishing Glaze. Got me started since I've had no prior experience with DA polisher. Here are the results I came up with.

This is on my Honda Prelude.

While Im at it, I've been working on removing this stupid clear bra for awhile now. Its been a miserable project but its coming along. Here is a reference shot of the nasty swirls that I had to tackle.

Sorry for the lack of quality in the pictures. All off my iPhone. Had a D-SLR but sold it and in the process of getting a new one so bare with me until then lol.

Here is where I am at with the Clear Bra as of now.

Almost done :) I have about 8-10 hours in trying to get this stupid thing off. Using a heat gun a little pieces off at a time is what is making this a long process. Then all of the left over adhesive making it more time consuming.

Newb Question-
Still have some slight swirls in different angles in the sun. Next go around I plan on going with M105/M205 combo. Then finishing off with Blackfire Wet- Ice Over Fire. My question is- Is that all I need for sealing everything up or after I've done all those steps do I still need to get a sealant to finish up?

Thanks for the help! Hope to get to know some of you guys.

Looks great! Whats the deal with the clear bra? WHy is it so hard to get off? Ive never dealt with those before..

And in my opinion, I would call it a day and enjoy your beautiful prelude. You have to remember, you only have so much clear coat. Everytime you compound/polish, you are eating away at whats left.

Just ask youself, is it worth chasing after the few remaing swirls/rids when it requires polishing again? If it were me, I would stop where you did and wait 1 year and then take a good look at the conditon of your paint and see if its worth it to you to polish it again. You may realize that the swirls you see at different angles with be more or less un-noticable out in the daylight.

With my car for example, I have some swirling and rids left over from when I polished, but they are clustered around body emblems, trim pieces. I know they are there, but I do not notice them ever unless the sun is at the exact angle required.

Just something for you to think about. :)

Thanks!

I've done some research on this clear bra and from what I've read they say to take them off within 4 years of them being on. I got the car back in 2006 with it on and never did any kind of maintenance for it. So its been on for at least 5+ years. So that might be the reasoning for it being a nightmare to get off. If I had an extra set of hands helping me it would be off by now but I can only give it two hours of my time then my fingers start to hurt from the heat gun and picking at it.

Persistance and dedication pays off once again.

Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks! The wheels are MB Motorsports. They weren't that popular of a brand back in 2007 when I got them but they are getting more popular now :( Time for new wheels in near future :)
