Thinking of getting a new detailing vehicle...

Ii detail out the back of my Dodge Magnum and all I get are compliments. Granted I do it as a side business and I have no decals but when I see a stranger wander in my clients yard asking questions I act professional and give them my business card. Those same people turn into clients about 60% of the time I talk with them. Hatchbacks are great and are fuel efficient, mine isnt though i got a hemi lol.

Guess what now every time I go out I actually have new people wanting their car done...

You're right. I'm pretty sure I wont do it at this point. But dam.. I'd like to feel like I was cruising heading to work lol

What would you guy's consider the ultimate mobile detail vehicle? (No Trailer)

If it could fit everything

But nobody else does I guess :/

I haven't tried every vehicle. Just my Safari. I did a lot of research, and considered all different types of vehicles, and all different sizes.

I came to the decision that a Safari or Astro are the only vehicles I would work with. Just based on their reliability, V6 engine, and just enough space for me to fit what I need.

I can't imagine rolling around in a V8 full size van. I know some people need that space. But, I haven't found myself needing more...yet, ha.

But that's the point lol

All that really matters is what YOU want. It's your business. This is what makes America so great. Make your business however you want it.

All others can do is offer opinions. Opinions unfortunately are like A holes...everybody has one. lol

I was the guy that did the camry set up. Some of my pictures were lost accidentally on photobucket, but the important ones are there.

From my experiences detailing out of my car I will tell you the pros and cons.

The first thing is that nobody cares what I drive. Most think it is cool that I detail out of my Camry and the others usually tell me to eventually upgrade to a truck. However they do understand that I am a full time student so most of my money goes to school.

I do not put labels on my cars because to me having no logos seems professional. I still keep getting high end customers. Some might disagree, I might have lost customers this way, but I mostly work by word of mouth. My future truck is only going to have my website and that is it. If I wasn’t doing a good job then I would definitely not get business. What it comes down to is this: If you have the skills to wow people and always do a great job, then they will not care what you are driving in.

Now several cons: Space is limited. When I quit my former detailing job I thought I could get by in my little car, it was after all temporary for the meantime. The problem is that I grew too quick (not really a problem) and I was having a hard time keeping up with clients and adding more equipment to my set up. I have a compressor and generator on the way and I have to no way to fit them in my car. I have to wait until I get a truck. I also buy DI/RO water from the next city over so my little 50 gallon tank was only lasting a day.

You have to get creative and try to organize everything if you do go the car route. I bought my entire equipment compact, but at the same time I bought quality equipment so that I would just transfer my products to my future work truck when the time came.

In reality it’s all up to you. I would opt for a truck if you could and just put a cover in the back. My next rig might be a Ford Lightning SVT (turbocharged) but I am just waiting for a good deal.

RAV777- I saw a lot of your posts when I was trolling behind the scene, doing my research.
One thing I can say is that you definitely sought out your products and equipment. Did a lot of research and reached out when in doubt. Much luck to you and your endeavor.

We were detailing out of a Ram with bed cover..... transmission went out and we were forced to get another vehicle..... got a van and WOW - LOVE the space! So now we will have two company vehicles (getting trans rebuilt this week on truck) but the van is definitely going to be the everyday vehicle. We would basically fill the entire bed and back cabin with tools and products and would still need more space in the truck - and all this without a water tank! Either way, VAN is my vote!

Good post. (Too bad your old post's pics are X's)

I had a Sgt. that would always say "Adapt and overcome." And that's what you did.

I worry about so much starting a new business venture, even though the first time around I knew where I made the mistakes and really I didn't fully commit to it.

But this time I will be ready :xyxthumbs:

Yeah, but I gotta agree with RAV, I like the truck, more suitable IMO, plus if you need to you can still use it as a DD.

Another idea I found for the use of a truck also:

Thats nice - would make things MUCH easier to get to. I agree with the DD comment for sure.... many times I go to get the kids from school and accidentally jump in the van lol

Glad you became a member Vegas. You sure helped get some much needed knowledge on RV's :dblthumb2: It did take a lot of research to get all the equipment but I hope that thread will save the hassle for some or give some ideas. Some pictures are missing and I might do an update post to fix the thread up a bit.

Thank you David and good luck on your business! I will be fixing that thread soon. I had an accidental delete while I was cleaning up my photobucket  but I still have the pictures on my camera. I might even sell that car as a mobile unit once I get my truck!
