Does your Griot's DA say PROFESSIONAL random orbital on the side?

Yeah, it's just very strange. The last 3 that I bought that said 6" random orbital on the side are noooooooooooooo doubt weaker than my "professional". I'm gonna post a video if I can.

This is the goal to translate an observation to something we can measure. It may be just the speed dial has some different specification.

The current measurement should tell you something at a gross level. I would also measure it at the various speeds under load as well to get a curve.

Just took some measurements. Under load and no load, the wattage is about the same for both machines. All readings were with a few watts of each other. So, I think we can determine the motors are the same, BUTTTTT, SOMETHING is different!!

Here's a couple videos showing the difference. In the first video(SPEED 4), I can stop the pad from rotating with one hand, NO PROBLEM AT ALL!! When the pad completely stopped rotating at one point, with the same amount of pressure on the good one, it was rotating like a bat outta hell! Not even CLOSE!!!!! My last3 have been exactly like this one!!

In the next vid, I'm using the stronger one on SPEED 4. Throughout the whole video, I'm using a lot of pressure. When you see the pad almost stop rotating, I'm putting a TONNNNNNN of pressure, to the point of it's hurting my hand. I was putting A LOT of pressure, and I couldn't stop the pad from completely rotating!!!! Unlike the weaker one, that was very easy to make the pad stop rotating.

i have the new GG 6 inch and the 3 inch mixed with microfiber correction and it works like a dream. If we keep asking for GG,meg,PC to make more powerful machines ,we will just be like rotorys in a few years. what do you expect for a 100-150 dollars. if you want more power buy a rotory buffer.

Just trying to have a little fun. :dblthumb2:

Even the sound is different... I must say the strong one sounds much more similar to mine than the weaker one...

So... same PF ? Same Watt ? Same VA ? Same A ? Still different....
Maybe a bad batch ? As some users are reporting to get plenty power from their units, even the no "professional" stick model.

I don't know much to think about it now as Griot's official answer is that threre is nothing different, and your tests shows that it really seems to be the same motor.
I personally trust griot's word, although of that I still can't desconsider findings like yours and flash.

Bottom line: If nothing has changed as Griot's confirmed, at least some batches must have some kind of issue because they are acting very different on the hand of experienced users with both old and new batches....

Mark, you mentioned earlier than on speed 4 the power was different. Is there a chance that while the wattage and engine are in fact the same that the speed settings have been changed some? That seems like the most logical conclusion given (1) Griot's response, (2) your wattage test, and (3) the several members that have or have had "both" versions and state that the power is the same.

I just measured the amps and watts, they were about the same. Can't be the batch, I bought 2 in a row 6-8 months ago, and this one a few days ago. All the same.

You know what I like about the Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Polisher?

It has the power to remove swirls and it includes a great warranty backed by a phenomenal company.

Plug the polisher in, attach a pad to the backing plate, apply some polish, and polish the paint. By that point, the only thing that will be on your mind is deciding which wax to apply afterwards.

:)

Did you see post #204?

I sure did...and I'll reiterate...

You've got (several) great polishers that are all capable of polishing paint to perfection. The more time you spend focusing on this thread is less time spent enjoying the tools.

Nick after seeing so many of your posts tonight I am obsessed with your wheel/caliper set up.

Mark sounds like a call to MythBusters is in order!

:)

Great documentation Mark! You can clearly tell there is a difference between the two machines

So I have a PC/XP and I can stop it one handed on high speed. I never have ran a Meg G110v2 so can't compare. But this clearly shows me the "weaker" GG6 is stronger than the pc/xp being as the test was done on speed 4 and there still is two more settings to go.
How about this? lake Country paid Griots to tone their GG6 down to save them money on replacing pads ...... :joking::poke:

it's nice to know there are choices on choosing DA's these days, and it won't be too far from now that another one will be available shortly :D to add to the never ending collection of power tools we all have...

Hope to see a cordless DA one day.
