Incredibly Cheap Finds

That Defiant - Brinkmann light is down to $9.00 at HD. Thinking of picking it up tomorrow. Anyone had a chance to use it for swirlfinding?

Speaking of Re-badged, almost all of Griot's tools- like the sprayers (rubbermaid), foam gun (adams), wash bucket, brake bleeder, etc are sourced from the same factory as alot of cheaper items. I've even read somewhere that the old polisher was the same as the HF DA polisher. I can't confirm it, but it wouldn't surprise me. Most of Griot's stuff has more than a fresh coat of paint though, quality stuff. Pricey though

I know alot of stuff you buy at HF, is available elsewhere at a higher price. Alot is pure crap too, but still, most of those factories overseas sell to alot of folks.

I was going to get that light but I found out it doesn't use rechargeable batteries. It comes with an adapter for a 12v power source but is not rechargeable.

Paint is the same, Sherwin williams makes Wall Marts house brand, to lesser standards, but people will still argue it. They actually make about 6 different labels for different companies. I have a manager friend who has been with SW for a Long time, he is the one who told me. To me, for inside the house paint is paint, kids ruin it all. :)

That must be regional.. Mine are $2.60, not that it's much of a difference. But I did dig up an old receipt from a paint sprayer, bought last summer, it was $2.38/ bucket then. No lids then

Just last month I saw them for almost 5 bucks. Maybe the lid was included? Either way, better than paying 20 bucks for one with a grit guard

I don't know the price down to the cent, but the store branded 5-gallon buckets are always somewhere between $2.50 and $3.00 at Lowe's and Home Depot here in St. Louis. Lowe's also has a grey bucket that has no logos and it's usually around the same price. Home Depot has some White buckets that I think are closer to $4. I've bought a couple just because having different colors works well for my purposes. After I'm done with a towel I throw it into one of 4-5 buckets, separated by wash load, and usually I fill the buckets with water and Simple Green to let them pre-soak. Home Depot also has the Gamma lids for $6. Both stores sell bucket organizer inserts and lids, 5-gallon tool belt things, regular lids for a buck and some change, and cheap easy lids that I don't buy anymore because they break. Last summer, Lowe's had the best 5 gallon accessory I have ever seen: A styrofoam insert that turns the bucket into a cooler! I normally try to avoid styrofoam, so if someone made a permanent foam version, I'd buy it. Hint-hint, autogeek...

Man, did I just kill this thread?

You can also get various colored 5-gal buckets from Lowes and Home Depot for cheap* when you order them online.

*or at least cheaper than the designated "wash buckets"

When I check that Brinkmann it is now showing for $3.98, just so everyone knows. Pretty limited pickup though.
