Incredibly Cheap Finds

I was out running errands with the lovely wife this evening. We stopped at K-Mart where I snagged the last two Blue Magic Clay Bar products they had. They were marked down from $9 & $5 respectively.

Don't know of this qualifies but I noticed the Meguiars foam applicators on close - out pricing at my work. So I ordered 2 cases (48 applicators total) for $15.23.

I wonder if this is some old stock left over from CSK? Reason I'm thinking that way is, there were 'boat loads' of those in some of the DC's prior to the buy-out.

Very good possibility. I have found in the past years helping with changeovers that they're buying decisions were, well, not all the wisest. "Let's buy it since it's a good deal even though we sell none of it". LoL

Ran by my local Kmart today. I have bought stuff on the clearance shelf before so I thought I would go check it out again.
100 gram Blue Magic blue clay bars $2.50 each. I only bought 4 though they had a bunch more.
Megs Ultimate compound and Megs Ultimate Polish $5.99 each. I only bought one of each, again they had a bunch more.

There's no way to ever know. It could be something as minor as the wrong label being affixed to an entire run to the wrong spark plug being installed to who knows what. The FTC mandates that once shipped to retailers, a product can't be pulled back to the mfr. for ANY modification and then returned to circulation and sold as new. It must be clearly and adequately labeled that the item(s) have been refurbished in some way. They don't have to disclose what the "refurb" alteration was but they do have to clearly make the note on the packaging.
The only exception to that rule is if the accompanying literature was not included in the packaging. But, in those situations, they almost always opt to ship the literature to the retailers and ask them to include it in the packaging rather than taking the enormous hit for the re-ship.

Anybody remember a computer company called Packard Bell? They violated that exact rule and got caught. God, I love telling this story....

Back in '97 Packard Bell had a 27% share of the PC market which at the time was the largest volume personal computer buying market and still was/is to this day*.
PB had a HUGE batch of combo modem/sound cards that were installed on almost every model of PC they sold at the time. The combo card had a design flaw that wouldn't allow it to recognize any drivers of any kind. Customers who called tech support with the issue were immediately shipped a new version of the card and the defective one was sent back to PB at their expense. Once back at PB's labs, the offending chip which contained the wrong code was re-coded with the correct instructions and then.... and this is where they screwed themselves.... were installed into new PC's and sold as "containing all new parts".
The FTC got wind of it, investigated and levied the absolute worst possible penalty against PB given the global buying frenzy that was taking place..... The FTC banned Packard Bell from selling ANY products in the US for 1 year! Their greediness cost them BILLIONS of dollars!!!
A couple of years later they re-emerged in the US as a company called eMachines.

*Fiscal year 1997-98 there were more personal computers sold worldwide than all makes and models of TV's - Combined!

Clay really never goes bad, I would go back and get the rest of them (especially at that price, its a no brainer). You can always use them later and/or put some up for trade for others who aren't fortunate enough to get any...

Thank you for that advise. I bet they have 15+ more bars. They had a tag for it with the spray for $4 but they didn't have any.

If you go back scan everything in the automotive isle. I got some Megs Ultimate Compound and Polish for $6.00 each today. They were not marked that way.
