Have you tried an acid wash for prep? When I used C4 and it didn't last as long as I thought it was going to, someone here suggested using an acid prep (which I suppose is perhaps what the water-spot remover is doing). I haven't gotten to re-do the C4 yet, but when I do I'm going to prep with something like the FK decon step 2 (acid).
I'm figuring APC, then acid, then maybe a final IPA wipe.
I had similar results with SF on my truck. The plastic base on my antenna was ashy almost as soon as I bought the truck. It was almost white instead of black. I used SF on it and it looked good for about a week and then it lightened up again. It's now grey and not white but it's not as it was when I first applied. I plan on doing it again and on a few other parts to test it out some more.
So far I will say that I prefer my old method of dying trim. It's not as fast but the results lasted and the end result was great.
Dave, I am back in az for a few weeks so ill post up a few pictures of my buddies truck I did back in June. I am beginning to think the type of plastic plays a big part. His door handles look great but the cowling is starting to fade just like the experience you had.
I'll give it a try. here are the pics i mentioned.Yes I do believe that. I have UTTG on various parts on this vehicle and Dlux on various parts of the daughters and everything holds up well. This particular piece is probably a mix of rubber and plastic which oxidizes to gray. I will try the cleaner Richard is sending while the 2 UTTG places are under test. As for your cowling the wife's luggage rack was graying and I used 303 and a terry cloth with some brisk scrubbing which brought it back to black and then the next weekend I put UTTG on it. It has been black ever since and I re-apply the UTTG around 3 months to be on the safe side. Something you may want to try, I'm just throwing it out there.
Dave
