The textured stuff. Man, this stuff works awesome! Spreads very easily and covers evenly. Very forgining on textured plastic as far as high spots. It gave the trim a nice, new, darker look. Not shiny, perfect! Best of all, my plastic trim should be protected permanently!!! This is not a restore product, but it's great for trim in good condition.

Glad it worked out for you man... I have 25k miles currently logged on my dd and I og it the 1st time I pulled it into my garage and couldn't be happier with the wAy it looks and has held up...no dressings for those pieces!

Pretty amazing if you ask me!

What applicator did you use to apply? Just wondering how you kept excess off the surrounding paint?

Did you try it on any ' soft' plastic or rubber?

Not for soft plastic or rubber

Good stuff Mark!

For some reason it never dawned on me to use it on trim but when logically thinking about it, it doesn't make sense not to!! :props:

You didn't happen to take any 50/50 shots did you?

Not Opti-Seal, Opti-Coat 2.0. It can be used on exterior plastic as well as paint.

I pasted the wrong link. I meant: Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 Permanent Paint Coating FREE BONUS

Yet it still gives no clue it's more than paint protection. But hey I'll try it out.!

Edit: Actually upon further review, I see it says: For other exterior surfaces, Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 is a highly effective, transparent protective coating. I wonder about the plastic cover of the convertible top.

The coating is permanent...unlike paint which can be sanded or polished to remove it, most trim cannot and the same would be said for your conv top. Be careful what you use it on and do some research first. ;)

My 2003 Mustang Cobra has some plastic items that have faded in the 10 years. I have thought about using Ultima Trim Guard Plus to rejuvenate and protect them. Perhaps soaking them in the Trim Guard instead of just coating them with a foam pad. The other option would be to purchase some new pieces and use Opti Coat. What is the expected length of time that these pieces can be protected with Opti Coat? Now reading this thread by Mark might be the best option, although a bit more expensive.

Don

Any suggestions or advice would be great!

Mark, do you have any photos of the trim? The pieces I am thinking of using it on is hood vents, cowl, fog light bezels, and side scoop inserts. All being black plastic. Currently they are quite faded.

Hey Don,

I'll snap some pics today. I used it only on textured trim.

If they're faded, I'm not sure how well OC would restore them.

Perfect, that is the type of plastic I am thinking of coating. I am contemplating buying new, then Opti Coating the pieces for protection.

There's a thread out on Min Wax Urethane coating vrs. Opti Coat on headlights and Opti Coat is by no means permanent. I think it started failing at the 8 mo. period. This guy who did the review knows what he is doing and did the necessary prep work.

I've washed two of my clients cars in the last month that were coated over a year ago now and they are still beading like day one. The trim on my '08 TSX was still darkened and beaded water when I sold it about 18 months after applying it as well.

I can't comment on the Urethane VS. OC on being used for headlight repair, but the coating IS permanent and is only coming off with abrasion.
