I don't think that is a fair comparison. The Ralliart/Evo's and WRX/STI's are rally inspired cars. They will give you unrivaled steering, whereas the MS3 is more of a really good sport version of Mazda's lower end car. LOL, actually, the MS3 is in a class of it's own, I don't really know what to compare it to!:xyxthumbs:

I was looking at both of these cars when I got my GTI. WRX is great and of the two is the one I'd get. MS3 is fast but not pretty and plenty of torque steer.
The GTI fits in between the two price wise, has the least amount of power (210hp), but the best interior (got a damn b pillar rattle after 10,000 miles grrr). I think the GTI is the best driving FWD also.
All three cars have a great aftermarket tuner scene.
 
How about the new Focus ST?

I test drove a Subaru when I was looking for my latest car (ended up with a 3), not a WRX so not totally comparable, but one of the things I didn't like about the AWD was the deal with the tires... apparently if you blow one you may end up either replacing all of them or having a new tire shaved down to the same tread depth as your other tires.

Subaru guys, do I have that right? Not a huge deal but something to consider.

I would compare the MS3 to the Cobalt SS/TC and Dodge Caliber SRT-4.

I would go with a WRX OP. Personally I'd get the EVOX before any of them but out of the 2 you stated, my opinion is the WRX due to AWD and Upstate gets some nasty winters sometimes.
 
Having driven both in a prior to purchase situation I would choose the WRX. As it turned out I bought neither.
 
WRX!! I backed out of buying one last September's but I'm starting to consider putting a deposit down on another one. I'm waiting to see what the 2013 is going to look like.

And then there is the Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec... Yummy.

I don't think a RWD is a good car to use in the Winters of NY.

I almost bought a 2013 Genesis Coupe Track. Car was gorgeous, but totally impossible to drive in the snow. AWD FTW.

I love my WRX but i'll agree the interior is a bit weak, mainly in the center console area; I had some paint flake off the console and the arm rest within 2 years.

Personally I like the look of the interior and I really don't mind that it is plastic I just wish they had done more to prevent rattles.

What ever you decide I suggest you pop for a clear bra early on as the paint is thin and it doesn't take much at freeway speeds to get chips down to the metal.

Agreed, clear bra is necessary. I'm scared to take my car out on the freeway until I get one.

I think if you want a WRX or either of the rally inspired cars, you aren't buying the car for the interior Im the MAN

For 5k you could put in a roll cage, and 2 racing seats. Then rip out the back seats along with the dash. Done.

If AWD is important to you, which it seems like it is, go for the WRX. It's one seriously fun car to drive. Not sure what your budget is but maybe it's worth saving up for the WRX premium, with the leather wrapped wheel and seats. I never really thought of the WRX having low end interior. I consider it nice and subtle. Good luck with the purchase.
 
I had a MS6 and loved it. Wish it had more power, but I didn't mod it. The interior was beautiful, handled very well and loved the looks. You can still find them around for 10-18k. General pic of the one I had.

I am leaning more toward the Subaru because of the AWD. I would love to have a MS3 but if winters are going to turn into a HUGE pain in the ass, then it's not worth it for me. If anyone can find a WRX near Upsate NY, let me know. I was shooting for the 25 - 26 range.

Word of advice... I did auto sales for two years (hated it and only did it to support my ungrateful ex).

Do your shopping online. Expect phone calls the next day, and but usually they shoot for 250-500 over invoice when your shop online. I live in Houston and all 3 Subaru dealers here pissed me off. I shopped every dealer in San Antonio, DFW and Austin/Georgetown/Round Rock area. The Georgetown dealer is who I will be returning to in a few months.

I put a deposit down on exactly what I wanted, was getting the WRX 150 over invoice and exactly what I wanted for my car (500 under trade but still had 4k in equity).

I regret not buying it then when I had the chance, can but I know who the first dealer to call will be. Idk if I have to drive 3 hours, they obviously know how to treat a customer and have earned my future business.

Moral of the story: Shop online. It's fast and easy. A dealer should shoot you a good price since your not just showing up on the lot to kick tires.

Also, I check Edmunds.com for new car pricing. I their invoices are usually within pennies, if not exact.
