So, like I posted a couple of days ago, I was out hunting locally for Aquawax and found a local place that carries all the Prima products. It was really odd to see "mail order" stuff just sitting on a shelf at an auto parts store. This was an independent store. I needed these products like I need a hole in the head, but I'm waiting for AG July 4th sale to order some stuff and prior to this I never considered buying Prima anything... So, I thought I would give some of them a shot since they were right in front of me. This is what I walked out with:
Four products: Mystique (car shampoo), Nourish (leather condition / protector), Slick (quick detailer), Hydro (spray wax / sealant). I had a chance to try all over them and thought I would post my thoughts on them.
Mystique: This is Primas car soap. Looking back, I have no idea what it cost, because I never asked. It smells really good a bit like lavender. They recommend two ounces for 4 gallons if I recall. However, I was going to using it in a foam cannon. I started out with about 2.5 ounces in a 30 ounce foam cannon bottle and mixed the rest with distilled water. I was using the method of foaming the car, rinsing, then going back to foam each panel to apply the soap to hand wash it. Then, I had a rinse bucket for the mitt. I've done this before with Chemical Guys soaps and it worked fine. The Mystique wasn't cutting it. Didn't make good foam and didn't seem to have any live in the soap. I added more soap to the bottle (about another 1.5 ounces) and only go a marginal improvement. I didn't really like the performance of this soap. Maybe because I was using it in a foam cannon , I don't know. However, once it's on the panel, soap is soap, and it just didn't impress me at all. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Chemical Guys soaps and their super concentrated formula? But, besides the great smell, this stuff just seemed like it didn't do much for me. It tended to feel not much slicker than water itself. This was the first product I used and was hoping I was going to like the others better.
Nourish: this is their leather product. It's lotion like and white in color. It has a leather smell to it. I wiped down my seats and door cars down with water and gave it a shot. This product I like. It goes on pretty easily, isn't too thick, and isn't greasy. Once applied, I let it dry for 10 minutes and buffed it down. Where many other products leave a matte finish, this actually has a bit of shine to it. However, it doesn't have a greasy feel to it at all. It says it has UV protection, which is good, because the car I used it on was a convertible. This product is more of a "conditioner" which many say is not necessary on today's leather. It doesn't really say it has protection other than UV. Im using it more as a dressing, as the black leather looks great once it's on there. It has just a hint of shine to it.
Slick: This is their quick detailer, and where the fun begins. I used this on my black sapphire metallic that was cleaned two days prior, and made a days worth of trips outside since. It wasn't dirty, but had a little dust on it. This product is super slick and a great QD, if not the best I've tried so far. The name is correct, it is very slick. It's a lot like the Optimum detailer, but just a little thinner and easier to spread. I really liked it. No streaks or fussiness, it just disappeared into the black paint. This product I will surely keep on hand. The bottles and sprayers are great also. The bottles are short and fat, and don't want to tip over every 3 seconds like the traditional tall bottles do. The sprayers don't drip and spray out mist or stream. The mist is perfect for larger areas like a hood and the stream is good for a small location. Also I was able to do the whole car with almost just one Cobra Jr. Usually, with other products, it takes more towels, as they get soaked with product and start to streak. It didn't happen with this. It left the surface perfect and glossy and a little goes a long way. If you like super slick QDs, than this product is for you.
Hydro: Hydro is a spray wax / sealant. It can be used after washing while the car is wet to dry it. Also, you can spray it on a dry panel. I decided to use it, after I cleaned up the car with the QD, as I figured the polymers would be similar or the same and this would be an easy way to add some protection. First let me tell you, I've tried other products like this that always ghost or haze later on black. This is no good at all. When it ghosts or hazes, people always say " your using too much product". Well I'm saying: "No, I'm not". I've tried these products many timesaver different ways and some of them just will present a fog the next day. Maybe because I'm working inside under bright fluorescent lights on a black surface, so I can see every little thing I notice it. Maybe it's my LSP. I don't know, but I know it's real and I know I'm not using too much. So what's Hydro like ? Hydro is awesome! I applied it with a sprayer of distilled water, misting the panel, then spraying one spray of the super concentrated Hydro over it. After that, I spread it with a Cobra Gold Jr towel. This stuff was great, super slick, super easy to work with, and super concentrated. And... It doesn't streak, haze, ghost, or sweat on black! Not in the least! Once it's buffed in you are left with a perfect glossy slick panel. The next day the car was still super slick and the paint was perfectly clear. This is the product I was looking for. It's perfect on black and easy to use. I was able to do almost the whole car with one towel and was getting no streaks at the end. It also doesnt streak or haze on the Clear Bra, which is where i always noticed these imperfections in the past. It's just a great product. This I will have on hand from now on! Here is a hood pic the next morning. Oddly enough it seems to repel dust, as the surface was also dust free:
