I was trying to remove a bird poop etch by just polishing with a MF pad and D300. No improvements so I decided to wet sand using 3000 unigrit to help. Followed by an orange pad and 105 then it was gone but what I was left with looked like some sort of round stain. No paint was on my pad so I ruled out burning through. All this was performed on a PC. Too hot maybe? Any ideas?

It looks like the sanding marks are still present. May need a more aggressive combination. Try the MF Cutting pad with M105.

Have you tried removing it with a QD or some other type of cleaner? It looks like product baked on the surface...or...the clear has been compromised. Hopefully it's not the latter.

You wet-sanded by hand or by machine? If you did it by machine, I might agree with rider that you simply haven't removed the sanding marks, but it looks more to me like you over-thinned the clear.

After reading your reply I'm not sure if the stain he is seeing is the round mark near the reflection of the canopy or the rectangular thing closer to the front of the hood.?

By hand. I've done this about 50 times and this is the first I've ever seen this. It's a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. I sure hope I didn't compromise the CC.

The round mark near the reflection.

Dave brings a good point up, make sure it isn't left over product. Try the easy way first of course.

He's a smart guy.

Did the etching look like one of the two centered under the camera in this photo (which is actually more of a checking situation caused by bird poo) or was it more like the etching under the reflection of my hand?

So where are you going with that picture, Dave? That the etch on the left doesn't need to be sanded to be removed, and the ones in the middle are too deep to sand?

The ones in the middle are too deep to sand. Just trying to get an idea of how much sanding he did.

You know Mike keeps saying how the clear on new cars keeps getting thinner and thinner...

Earlier this morning I was goofing around on my phone searching out the thickness of a human hair in microns. It seems that a human hair depending on many different factors can be anywhere from 17 microns to 181 microns in diameter. 1 mil. is 25.4 microns. How many mil. do you think the total film build of all 3 layers of paint are on a Hyundai? I dunno but it wouldn't take much to sand through part of it.

Looks about the size and shape of a 3" unigrit disc(if that's what you used). If that round stain wasn't there before you sanded, and now it's there, you haven't removed the sanding marks, or, you struck through the clear.

That's what I thought, but he says he hand sanded (I guess he could have used a 3" disc by hand).

By "mil." you mean milliliters?
Because 1 millimeter = 1000 microns (One micrometer is 1 meter divided by 1 billion)

No, a mil is .001" (a "thousandth"). The total film build on a new car is usually about .006".
