Junkman's, The Mother of All "How to Fix Your Paint for Novices" Thread!

This video/junkman has help me learn the true meaning of paint correction. Slowly but surely I have been piecing together a paint correction kit. Stuff don't come cheap.

So far I have the 2 bucket wash system minus the foam gun, mothers clay bar. just got some Gary deans infinite detail juice(stuff smells great), just go my waffle weave blue towels. I just placed an order for 5.5: 2 orange 2 white and a black hexlogic pad, came with free cleaning solution, new grit guards(ran them over with my car) from chemical guys they had 20%off the pads due to sema week. will make a Video on all this stuff once I get it all in.

On my to order list are the Zaino borderless blond towels(been out of stock for about a week) , hook and loop back plate,Foam gun, PC 7424XP, and the polish.

Please let me know if I'm forgetting anything

Ohh yea you know it. Will save for all that in about a month so I can save on shipping. I love how they have the smaller bottles of the m105 and m205. Not pricey at all

FYI I don't know we're i read about the quick connectors but I found some nice brass gilmore parts at lowes. Saved $$$$ on the shipping

Good to see your smilin' face junkman. Sure wish we'd have had time to stop and see you on the way to Evansville. The get together was great. My uncle even wished we'd have had time to paid you a visit.

I may shout at you sometime and see if we can work something out on a time to meet. You're not that far from me.

I'm glad this thread popped up. I had forgotten about it and I wanted to send the link to a few folks.
 
Just let me know. My schedule is flexible and I enjoy meeting folks from the various forums. I just got back from doing a breast cancer fund raiser in Atlanta and it looks like I'll be going back around December the first to do a detailing clinic at the Atlanta Detailing Salon. So who knows, we may meet soon!

Paint was heavy damaged. Not going for perfect just want to bring a nice shine. What kind of wax would you recommend. I put some paint sealant . want to add as one wax for added protection

I keep it simple with wax. Collinite's Super Doublecoat carnuba paste wax.

It doesn't for those of us who have perfect paint. For those with less than perfect or jacked up paint, anything might add to the look of their paint including Crisco.
 
This morning I stumbled upon Junkman's novice videos series on Youtube and watched all five videos straight on through. Very cool!

Then I came back to the AG Forum to see what's up and the Junkman is the latest thread! Too funny!

So I had to chime in. Great videos Junkman! You're an entertaining guy. There's no way I could have sat through five videos otherwise. You present a lot of good advice on technique...just loved your videos.

So, your saying it can improve "bad" paint, but it won't add any gloss or brightness to "good" paint? Since wax/sealant/coating is actually covering (on top of) the paint, and wax/sealant/coating has to have some color, gloss, clarity, and light reflecting properties of its own (good or bad), how could it not affect the appearance of the paint to some degree?

I have one rule when making videos. If some hot chick can't sit through it without being board, then I have failed. My videos must be that simple. That's why I don't get into all the bone deep details when it comes to fixing paint. I would rather be out chasing skirts than sitting at home rubbing on my car like some kind of detail geek. There are a lot more fun things to rub on and I am usually rubbing on them while cruising down the road. Like these for example... :props:

First, what wax are you talking about that has "some color" to it? I know of no such animal except for that OTC crap they sell called Black Box. If the wax you are using has coloring in it to mask damage in the paint, that stuff is crap. If a wax contains coloring in it, then it can only be used on specific color cars. Again, the only product I know of like that is that Black Box crap.

Second, wax is a protectant. In order to make anything shine, you must polish it. In the Marines, we POLISHED brass and we POLISHED our boots. Result? They shined like glass. On my old Camaro with aluminum wheels, I polished them. Results? They shined like chrome. My girlfriend's jewelry has diamonds in it. It get's polished in order to make the diamonds continually shine. Same with glass, wood and anything else I can think of. If you want something to shine, you POLISH it. No where does wax remove oxidation and defects and make stuff shine UNLESS you are using a cleaner wax, which has POLISH in it. Wax is a protectant. It protects the shine that you get from polishing. If that concept escapes you, then you are a victim of the marketing that detail supply companies do concerning wax. That's the hype that I don't fall for. I use common sense in everything that I do and understanding exactly what a wax does is nothing but common sense.

If you think that wax makes paint shine, then tell me what type of wax is on my car in this picture. I'm sure that you are of the camp that different waxes produce different looks as far as shine goes.
