Nippon lady gets pampered

Hope you are all doing great and fine

Sharing with you, the journey of a Nippon lady, a Toyota Yaris, great looking, but close inspection after washing and claying reveals a different truth. Not pleasant at all. The car has been washed with a scourer you would say!

Who set this guy loose on the car???

He is not supposed to touch any car, let alone clean them! OMG!


The ride has been washed 2BM. Claying 2 sections of it give the following:

Section-wise, looking at the most handled parts of the paintwork…. The door handles
The passenger’s side

The shy sun, hiding behind the clouds! The roof was in pretty bad shape.

The vertical panels
The most obvious and larger sections were covered with defects of all types. Pinholes, orange peel, Holograms and swirls even sanding-like marks were all present to welcome the owner everyday. Remains of sanding marks were all visible.

No clarity, dull and flat

It's all fine here, I did that in August school holidays. it took about 5 days.

The process i used:
Work in small sections, compound first, see the results, wetsand (smallest grit available here is 2500), polish and finish.

It would be a pain I thought to wetsand the whole car and get tired before:buffing: as I did with a Honda Civic a few months back.

Thanks for your encouragement bros.

Products: Menz PG (old one), 203s and 85rd, with LC orange, wool, white and black pads
Makita rotary for compounding and polishing, Flex DA for finishing. the paint is a real soft one.

for compounding, try Megs 101, Optimum Hyper Compound or still the new Menzerna FG 400, you'll skip at least 1 step because they finish as a polish. Menz 106 will finish LSP ready. Optimum Hyper polish will work fine too.

:buffing::
Compound a small section,
wetsand if required,
recompound lightly or polish (203s and wool for extra cut to remove sanding marks),
finish with DA (most of the time it was LC white and 85rd).

Sealed it with DP Policoat, (IMO Menzerna Powerlock definitely is the winner, more depth and warmth. Worked with Optiseal too, easiest to apply.)


Go least agressive the best way as Mike and so many others have pointed out. Remember to work in small sections, see the end results, appreciate your work, rops: you'll get extra :hungry: motivation.
