Re Frankenstorm Sandy

I hope that everybody is still safe!
It's hard to believe, but Sandy is even playing hell with Lake Michigan, here in Chicago. Nothing like the East Coast, but that just the perspective as to how large a storm this is!

The damage to my different family members on the Jersey Shore is devastating.:nomore:

Hopefully they are all ok, material things can be replaced, homes can be rebuilt but people can't.

I am in SI, NY and some parts of the island got destroyed. Water up to roof tops, cars floating around, trees down everywhere, houses destroyed and some people lost theirs lives. I have no power as I write this but have a generator getting us by. Took many precautions moved entire basement to 1st fl and put the Shelby in a garage on higher ground. Tree fell in front of house missed house and cars but took out cable and phone lines.

No worries all my detailing equipment and supplies are safe and the rides have fresh coat of 845, oh and the family is safe too.

Glad to hear that you made it out ok! When you get a chance you will have to post a few pics if you have any.

Have had no power and very little phone service since Monday afternoon. Minimal damage to house, though. Have no idea when electrical will be restored, but if I was to guess, sometime later in the weekend. Working off of laptop battery which is also charging cell phone, which is pretty much good for telling time only. My understanding is that my office at the World Financial Center has no power and probably had some flood damage in lobby from the Hudson River overflowing its banks.

Cars could use a good cleaning also, but it could have been much worse for us.

Glad to see for the most part all is well!

I dodged a bullet here at home and my beach house. Never lost power and just a few limbs down. Was a very stressful weekend.

Our power just came on here in Bridgeport,CT. The most damage here was down trees, and power lines . We watched the storm as it passed us. We watched my brother in laws shed be lifted almost 12 feet in the air and thrown into a neighbors yard. Thanks no one was hurt. Still many without power in the area.

No way bro. South Jersey and NYC got killed. Death toll rising. Check out pics The Star-Ledger | New Jersey Newspaper - NJ.com Daily News America - Breaking national news, video, and photos - Homepage - NY Daily News.

Entire towns wiped out in NJ and Breeze Point, NY looks like Beruit after 100 homes burned down.

Breezy Point is such an isolated community, like a barrier island on the southern side of Brooklyn. It was difficult if not impossible for fire and emergency vehicles to get accross bridge to the community during height of storm. Last I heard they were still searching to see if there were any fatalities.

I'm waiting for power and real internet. Using abackup generator that a friend had that wouldn't start. I got it working after rebuilding the carb. Now the problem is getting gas to keep it running. Gas stations are closed and no gas deliveries to the stations that have power.

My power went out for a little and everything else was not so bad, BUT my shore house in brigantine I bet is destroyed, haven't been able to get to see it yet...

No I know it was terrible in some locations, I'm just saying in northern va it wasn't very bad at all.. Some trees knocked over -- the basic extent of damage

was just an over hyped thunderstorm in nova

I find this insensitive. I have lived through more hurricanes than I would like to recount. My family in NJ got shredded and are in dire straights. Not only do they have to rebuild a building that they just rebuilt last summer after Irene hit, Their insurance deductible is enormous for windstorm protection:nomore:.

Sorry to hear of not only your family's sufferings, but all that were victimized/debilitated
by varying-degrees...from Sandy...Especially the folks that have lost loved-ones.

And...
I personally want to thank you, 57BORNTORUN, for your descriptive-word-choice of
chastisement for those that think otherwise.

I know it's very difficult for me to find the restraint to do the same.

While the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the corridor North East along I95 took the brunt of the storm and recorded the most rainfall, other areas were hit with power outages and damage from fallen trees and flooding.

In our case, we live in Northwest Baltimore County and lost our power at 9 pm Monday night. It wasn't restored until 3:30 am Wednesday morning. In addition I had several trees fall onto my chain link fence in my back yard. About 50' of fencing needs to be replaced as well as part of my next door neighbors fence. It could have been a lot worse but it was bad enough as it will still cost me to have the trees removed.

I haven't been on the forum very much as I had to have major back surgery this summer including three laminectomies for spinal stenosis. Therefore I have to have others do the cutting up of the trees and cleanup work that I would have been normally done myself in the past.

That was an incredible storm. Hope everyone made it out alive

Things are getting worse, looting and burglaries on the rise. No power or heat and food, water, gas and basic supplies are scarce. Been called in to assist state and local PD's with patrols.
