Best Choices for high longevity Trim Protectant

I have been so focused on protecting the paint on my 10 month old vehicle that I didn't even think about protecting the trim. The trim condition on my Honda CRV is in great condition but want to protect it as that black plastic can go grey.

What are your recommendations for a new car to seal the black plastic? Also, I assume I could put Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant on the windshield wiper arms?

Ed

for the trim on a new car use OC 2.0 or Cquartz Dlux, and put it on the wiper arms too

Generally folks, I'm the type of person, that once a hobby enraptures me, I go headlong, and all out, no holds barred.

With that said, I'll probably buy, and try virtually every product mentioned in this thread, with the possible exception of GTechniq EXO, as It's been suggested there are probably better products made that solely address plastics, and rubber trim, etc.

The facts are, the more one looks at these modern vehicles, the more one sees plastic of all different sorts. They're all plastic! LOL

Even under the hood, there's so much of it today, and common off the shelf protectant products don't last, and seem to have the opposite desired effect as time passes. As well, most of those off the shelf products in stores are nothing but greasy-oily dirt, and dust magnets. Dust is a huge problem here in the desert southwest. Just watch any old clint eastwood spaghetti western, and you'll get the idea!

Out local Walmart carries a quite large host of Protectants, quite a bit from Meguiars, Mothers, and even Surf City Garage, I but seem to note all of them contain petroleum distillates. Mark

Hi Mark,

There are several products on the market that do work but I think longevity and durability are paramount in your eyes.

Products I've used:

CarPro DLux
Solution Finish
CarPro PERL
Wolfgang Vinyl & Rubber Protectant
Collinite 845
Ultima Trim & Tire
Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant
PoorBoy's World Trim Restorer

Two products that rise to the surface I tested over the summer and they are; CarPro DLux and Solution Finish.. Both are classified as high-tech coatings and my tests show the durability of both are in the 3 to 4 month range...

Food for thought

For the past year or so I've been using, Meguiar's Ultimate Wax-LIQUID.

My truck has a boat load of the infamous 'bumpy plastic', all I can say is it works like a champ (for me).

Thanks Bobby for the link, and review of the CQuartz DLux. Mark

Thanks for the information. Will these gloss up the finish at all or is it primarily a sealant? I noticed the rear wiper is a bit worn looking. Would it be good to use a cleaning lotion?

Hey Mark,

I was really surprised how well it restored that plastic trim on my 14 year old Dodge Dakota and they still look great today!....Do they look as if the product was just applied? No, of course not but they still look amazing after 4 or 5 months...:props:

clean it good...it will darken a bit...but make sure it is clean to achieve best bonding..

For my wife's new Mazda 3 I used Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant and I really like it. I used it around the windows, cowl, mirrors, wiper arms, etc.

It beads water beautifully, acts like Rain-X on the mirror housings and has lasted a couple of months so far.

HOWEVER, I tried a bit of it on the grill of my neglected 1999 Civic with 200,000+ miles on it. It went from chalky light gray to not so chalky medium gray.

It sounds like Solution Finish or a CarPro product may be the best route for your cowl.
