Single stage. That's cool. I'm a newbie. How could you have a paint with no protective over it?
I would just polish the car with the M105 and an orange pad. Or at least do one panel to see how it goes first.
Next id recommend putting a permanent lacquer like Opti-coat on it.

Be careful using a compound on single stage black paint, especially older, neglected singles stage black paint.
Black paint tends to be the softest paint there is due to the pigment and this means you can easily and quickly go through to primer. See this article for info on paint hardness...

Dr. G formulated Opti-Coat for clear coats paint systems. I think you could still get good results on single stage paints though... just do the right prep work first.
Clear coats = non-porous
Single stage = porous, at least more porous than clear coat paints (that's why they oxidize easier)
