Can some tell me if this is oxidation

What do you think

Well its a flat black, and i remember doing research about this

To this day, any paint that is a non metallic from Toyota is a single stage paint. No clear coat on it.

This would probably explain why paint is being pulled up and it scratches really easy.

I would just polish the car with the M105 and an orange pad. Or at least do one panel to see how it goes first.

Next id recommend putting a permanent lacquer like Opti-coat on it.

Hope this helps!

Single stage. That's cool. I'm a newbie. How could you have a paint with no protective over it?

That's a misconseption...

Long before clear coats were the norm all we had was single stage paint. I document this in the first part of my how-to book because I know we've had 3+ generations of car owners that have never owned a car with a single stage paint.

Be careful using a compound on single stage black paint, especially older, neglected singles stage black paint.

Black paint tends to be the softest paint there is due to the pigment and this means you can easily and quickly go through to primer. See this article for info on paint hardness...

Dr. G formulated Opti-Coat for clear coats paint systems. I think you could still get good results on single stage paints though... just do the right prep work first.

Clear coats = non-porous

Single stage = porous, at least more porous than clear coat paints (that's why they oxidize easier)

Hadn't really considered that Mike!

I've done a bit of search and I've heard people have had great success with Wolfgang Swirl Remover and Finishing Glaze on an orange pad on single stage toyota paints.

Personally I am a Menzerna guy, so id use PF2500, not too familiar with Megs products.

PS bought an autographed copy of your book, LOVE IT!! everyone should own one!

Also, any word on Menz Fast Gloss compound??
