Ford tells 89,000 Escape, Fusion owners to park cars because of engine fire risk

It may not mean anything in your mind but rest assured it means something to the thousands of Americans whom work there, not to mention the communities where they live and all the business surrounding them, so let's be honest here, ok. I always here the same, tired comments too..."but where do the profits go?", lame and weak! Back 7 yrs ago I owned a Crossfire, built in the Germany at the Karman plant with 85% M-B parts, so what did I buy then?
I didn't say the jobs they created were bad things. It's that a lot of people get caught up in the whole "this foreign car is more American than that American car because its built here", those comments are tired in my opinion too. That's what I meant by when I said it doesn't mean anything in my mind.

Do I care that our Edge was assembled in Canada? No I don't, I care that its a Ford. I'm sure there are a lot of Camaro owners who don't care that their car was assembled in Canada, because its still a Chevy.

Call me biased toward Ford and American manufactures, or whatever you want to call it. Attack something I love and have pride in owning, and I will defend it.

I'm sure the above could also be said for owners of foreign manufacturers. They will also defend what they love and have pride in.

A Ford may not work for some people, but a Toyota will. Ford works for me, but Toyota doesn't. That's just how I am.

All MFG's have recalls, Ferrari 458's were HOTT cars when they came out too.....remember?!
Yes they do, and I remember the 458's.

Bottom line is buy what you like, what you want, and what works for you. Foreign vehicles don't work for me. Sorry, again that's just how I am.

I'm sure FoMoCo is going to take care of the problems and continue to builld the freshest and nicest line up on the market today!

... and I agree with this.:xyxthumbs:

Oh and Klasse, this was not meant to be directed at you in a negative way if it comes off being like that.

Happy detailing everybody, no matter what kind of car you drive.

No offense taken here, its good to have an open conversation about this. That said I think this sums it up pretty fairly:

I go to workand put in MY time and therefore I buy what I want with MY money because its what I want or what I need. This is also coming from someone born and raised in Detroit in a UAW familyN so take that for what its worth.

Being a GM person for most of mylife.........I will say that ford has been in my driveway for a few years through out my life.

Guys I'm 48 years young and love american muscle........that being said I've owned 12 Gm's and 3 fords, and 1 honda.

I have raced dirt cars for a great part of my life and Chevy was the choice........then I tried Ford and couldn't compete so swtiched back.

Ford nowadays makes some great looking cars and there are a few I would buy in a heartbeat if I could......Mustang,Raptor just to name a few.

Personally I don't think Al is pointing out that Ford is junk, he is just passing on some great info on problems will somebody's vehical that could result in serious injury.

I will say this....Ford WILL make it right...somehow,someway.

I am not bashing any car co. or anybody who has responded.......just trowing out my .02

I looked up some figures and you are not alone. In July 2012 3 of the top 10 selling vehicles were Fords - Your pickup, Fusion and Escape. Toyota had 2 - Camry and Corolla and Honda had 2 with Accord and Civic. The others were the Nissan Altima and Chevy Silverado and Dodge Ram.

I believe that just about every American who buys a foreign brand car wishes that he/she could by an American made car ( i know I do )
but the plain fact is people do not want to waste their hard earned money. Until US cars are made as well as foreign cars it is not going to happen.

Corvette is a wonderful car for the money, however, it is not really very reliable.

I don't have anything against American cars. That being said I want luxury, quality and dependability in my cars.

My first car was a Chrysler 300 and it was nice but I doesn't even compete with my Acura that I have now.

I will start looking at "American" cars again when they can compete with Japanese and German companies.

Not attacking anyone Just my observations but I'm only 18 so...

Hey Chad, you might wanna check out what's going on over at Buick....yes Buick! I know your only 18 but check out the recent Motor Trend where they tested the new Acura ILX against the Buick Verano Turbo......Buick won the competiton. I like the ILX but when you look at the Verano, its an easy choice for me, the Buick, hands down. The Buick has all the bases covered, looks, interior, reliability and power, oh yeah, the choice between auto and manual transmissions. Need a little more room, check out the Regals, offered in 2.4L NA, Regal T w/220 hp and the GS w/270 hp and Brembo's and track ready suspesion (not sure how many will take advantage of that but its there) There's an article in one of my car mags from a couple monthes ago where they actually took the Regal GS and a top speed run out in Nevada where it won its class IIRC. Oh yeah, that Verano turbo has 250hp/260 ft/lbs of torque in a relatively smaller car and has a stick to boot, sounds like a fun combo to me:dblthumb2:

Although not Buick engines in these cars, the Ecotec has been around for some time now, so the bugs are out of those motors and they can make even more power for sure but not sure if Buick is going to offer a tune for them like they did in the Cobalt SS turbo where for under a grand you could walk into your local Chevy dealership and buy a tune where your little Cobalt goes from 260/260 to 290/290 and that's with NO OTHER MODS, imagine some exhaust opening and intake!!!

Buick wants to get younger and when you look at their line-up right now, they've got the Regal in all of its versions and now the Verano in 2 versions, things are changing over there, check em' out:props:

If I could afford one I would get an American built car. The Tesla.

Gorgeous. Technologically advanced. And it does everything I need a car to do.

But there is a Toyota model I will possibly get when it comes on the market. The next generation Yaris is going to be a generation five hybrid. The electrical storage method is going to be Ultra Capacitors. There will be an 1100cc turbo direct injection engine powering the front wheels. The turbo will be extremely high pressure. 38psi. And to overcome the inevitable turbo lag there will be a pancake electric motor on each rear wheel producing 60hp for each wheel. Not only will the electric motors cover up the turbo lag but they will supple thrust vectoring as an active form of stability control.
The expected gas mpg is in the 68mpg range. Sales date 2017 or beyond.

I wonder if those "Ecoboost" engines will catch on fire too?

There used to be a time where we lead the world in technology, too bad we can't find where it went. As far as the next gen Yaris goes, that sounds like an all around perf car, mpg and mph, WOW! I do wish the US cars were working on something that advanced, sure we've got the Cruize EcoDiesel but its going to take some time for people for learn about diesels and get the 80's out of their minds.
