Up Close & Personal: Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax

Oh, OK...I keep NRWW (No Rinse Wash & Wax) for a maintaining product. I keep NRWS (No Rinse Wash & Shine) for a multifunction product (washing pre LSP, after polishing, when cost is a factor, etc). If I only had one, I'd have to keep NRWS because as a detailer I need a product that leaves nothing behind more than I need a maintenance product. If I were just maintaining the shine on my own vehicles I would only need NRWW.

So, if I had a very dirty vehicle (think winter washing, salt, etc.), which would be considered a maintenance wash since there would be no polishing or LSP top-up after, would ONRWW tackle just as dirty a surface as ONR? Would it be as safe? Or would you pick ONR? Or ONR pre-soak followed by ONRWW?

I'm also interested in the staining question, but Nick, how/when do you see this product being used vs. ONR v.3? How does the gloss/slickness compare to ONR v.3?

Gloss and slickness is superior to the regular ONR - you can thank the carnauba for that.

A couple of questions:

1.) Will ONR-W&W remove an existing wax...with the "Wax-Element" of ONR-W&W
displacing/replacing said existing wax? If not totally, to what extent?

2.) Would the carnuba wax in ONR-W&W have any affect(s)...[such as streaking/smearing]...
on vehicles' Wax-LSP's, according to the parameters in question #1?

3.) What LSP was on your vehicle prior to it being ONR-W&W'd?

2. Not that I've noticed. I've never seen a rinseless wash with wax (Optimum, Duragloss, Pinnacle) affect the wax-based LSP on the vehicle.

I would pick No Rinse Wash & Wax simply because of the fact that it's going to add/reinforce the existing layer of paint protection, which is critical during the winter months where the vehicle is bombarded with salt and all the other chemicals used on the road.

I haven't personally used Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax on a heavily soiled vehicle, but I have used a similar product - Pinnacle Liquid Gloss Rinseless Wash with Carnauba - on heavily soiled vehicles with great results. I would imagine Optimum No Rinse Wash & Wax would fair well too.

I would consider that maintenance and would choose NRWW. It is ONR just with added carnuba, so you can expect the same performance with the bonus of some Nuba and added UV protection. If this was all you ever used on a new vehicle and washed weekly or biweekly, I don't think you would ever see signs of fading and you'd always have nice beading. It's a great environmentally conscience, time saving, easy to use product.

Seriously, I made a New Year's resolution a couple years ago that I wouldn't keep any more than a two year supply of any detailing product on hand. So that means I can't buy any rinseless washes until next spring, any tire dressing until 2014, any conventional washes until 2022, any sealants until 2018, and any waxes until 2028.

No, but really seriously, I'll be trying this out before too long...I'm waiting until the other new OPT products come out (hint, hint).

Rinseless washes are not designed to foam, so they wouldn't work in the traditional sense in a foam cannon. They might be of some benefit as an additive for additional water softening or improved lubrication.

Had a chance to use the new ONR Wash & Shine today. What a product. Did my Prius and Honda CVR. I took my time and was just under 45 minutes for each vehicle. The only time I noticed any slight white residue was do my own error (the MF was too damp, it was easily removed with a dry MF). The cars have a nice shine and are smooth to the touch. At least the vehicles look good for a day until they hit the streets that are covered with road salt and snow melt. Think I'll be switching between this and the Pinnacle Waterless Wash to do all my washing from now on. Seems to be just as fast the the bucket and hose and then dry I used to do.

Did I read somewhere that some folks are using a grout sponge to apply the ONR?

^ A lot of people swear by the Lowe's Grout Sponge. I have always used a microfiber wash mitt that is covered in knobs. Autozone has it. Can't go wrong using plush microfibers, grout sponge or a chenille mit.

I can confirm this, I used it a couple of times this winter below freezing and it worked amazingly well!

It might - IME, OCW leaves a carnauba look - more glow and depth, less shine and reflection.

The answer to both your questions is no. You will need a sealant of some type to keep you plastic lenses nice. Of course regular maitenance helps as well.

What brand of sealant should I opt for for the headlights? My problem with the expel film is they basically want like $60 for a couple paces of plastic film. And I'm not sure I could do a good install since the headlights have a corner/edge to them that looks hard to cover.

Glad you mentioned this. Would someone looking for a more reflective look be better suited with ONR instead of ONRWW?
