Christmas Detail - Ferrari P4 - Move over Rudolf

This is a reproduction of the Ferrari P4. Ferrari only built three 1967 P4's all of these still exist today and are accounted for. In the late 1980's, Noble Automotive in England was commissioned to build a reproduction for a private collector and this is the Noble P4. It cost over $300,000.00 at the time of the build including a Ferrari 308 engine, Porsche 915 transaxle and 5-speed transmission plus 4 down-draft Webber Carburetors.

The paint is Rosso Corsa Red in single stage and when I arrived and inspected the paint every inch of it was completely swirled out. I restored the paint using the following 5 steps.

  1. Wiped car clean using Detailers Waterless Wash.
  2. Clayed the paint using Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay.
  3. Machine polished the paint using Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover/Flex 3401/LC 6.5" Flat White Polishing Pad.
  4. Machine polished the paint using Wolfgang Finishing Glaze/Meguiar's G110v2/LC 5.5" Flat White Polishing Pad
  5. Machine waxed the paint using Wolfgang Fuzion/Meguiar's G110v2/LC 5.5" Flat Blue Finishing Pad.

Beautiful job Mike. Now that is a sleigh Santa would be proud of :)

Great work (as always) on a car that has some of the coolest body lines of all time. And it just wouldn't look the same in any other color.

Mike as usual beautiful work and documentation!
Thank's so much for sharing :xyxthumbs:

Stunning!! I am seriously jealous! I would give my eye teeth to work on a beauty like that! Such a pretty car!

Now that's a beautiful finish!
Nice pic with the emblem splitting the two sides.

Rear window it a treat to look into, good ol downdrafts

When I read P4 I thought "OMG!"...it's only a replica: disappointment!
But, top notch work as usual! :dblthumb2:

Nonstop producer of phenomenol results , your are a magician when it comes to cars. Once again you have done it. Wet and deep finish as always. Mike " Magic " Phillips

That car looks unbelievable.

Sent from the mind of a madman.

nice job Mike ! :dblthumb2:

i do hate old cars , you never know where will crack or the paint is barely covered, plus... body work , repaint panels , improper body work repairs, loose trims , you name it.
most old cars are restored on budget and with improper technique and is just a pain to see their finish.
this ferrari seem like a nice car all together.

Extreme makeover Mike Phillips style!
Great job as usual Mike!

Thanks Robert, I really enjoy working on SIV or Special Interest Cars. I have a video that shows the paint in the sun and in the video I say the same thing we all think as detailers when we see cars like this,

"Why are cars like this always a swirled out mess?"

Well at least that's 'what I always think because cool cars like this are almost always swirled out. As though the people that "touch the paint", whatever that includes, i.e. washing, wiping, waxing, etc. don't have a clue as to how to touch paint without putting scratches into it at the same time.

This car has some body lines that are very thin and sharp and in some places you can see the white primer where someone else has already rubbed through.

Very nice, it's going to be a merry Christmas for someone. Shine on.

That's what I thought, it would look great in the driveway with a ribbon and bow on it.

Great work (as always) on a car that has some of the coolest body lines of all time. And it just wouldn't look the same in any other color.

It's very curvy and looks like it's moving even when it's sitting still...

what a sweet ride,,Maybe its time I try Fuzion

The Wolfgang Fuzion really gives the red paint a deep, wet shine...

Mike as usual beautiful work and documentation!
Thanks so much for sharing :xyxthumbs:

This was a quickie, I 5 steps to it and invested most of my time into the first machine polishing step as that's the most important step and the step that determines the end results.

Stunning!! I am seriously jealous! I would give my eye teeth to work on a beauty like that! Such a pretty car!

It's always fun to take a true diamond in the rough and turn it into a glistening gemstone...

Now that's a beautiful finish!

The before and after shot above the emblem was my test spot where I proved my system approach would work. After proving the system I removed the tape and buffed this panel a second time to work out even more of the swirls and scratches.

Great work by "THE MAN". Very nice car.

Everything I did was basic Detailing 101 procedures using quality products and focusing on the task at hand due to the soft, single stage paint.

Great job!

Thank you.

Wow, that looks insanely good!

Thanks Mark...

The paint is very glossy now as compared to how it looked before I started. The key to glossy paint is to make the paint as smooth as possible and that comes from again, the basics and in this case I used detailing clay to remove whatever contaminants were on the paint.

When I read P4 I thought "OMG!"...it's only a replica: disappointment!
But, top notch work as usual!

There were only three P4's ever built, there's a P3/4 too and all of these are accounted for from 1967.

So if a guy wants a P4 and the collectors that own the real P4's don't want to sell then the only other option you have is to build one. In this case, a car collector commissioned Noble Automotive. Here's their website...

Noble Automotive

They build their own custom sports car call the M600 which has an all carbon graphite body...

M600.jpg

So this P4 Replica is probably a little higher build quality than what most people can whip out in their garage...

Thanks for the kind words. Truth is anyone could have have tackled this car and achieved the same results by just using basic techniques with quality products.

That car looks unbelievable.

I like how it looks but I don't think I could ever drive something like this...

nice job Mike ! :dblthumb2:

i do hate old cars , you never know where will crack or the paint is barely covered,

Thanks Cosmin...

Thin paint is usually my biggest concern. The problem with cars this old is you never know who buffed them out in the past and what they used. Worst case scenario is someone using to coarse and aggressive of a compound and removing more paint than is necessary.

I have a term called,

Whisper thin

That's when paint is so thin on a car or a section of a car that anyone using anything is going to run into trouble. Not good.

this Ferrari seem like a nice car all together.

It is actually very nice. I inspected the engine and engine compartment and everything is top notch quality about how it's all put together, no shoddy craftsmanship anywhere.

Incredible work Mike.

Thanks Mike...

Whoa! Awesome job Mike! And that's such a cool car!

Thanks Ray...
