Mircofiber IMO...

Dug up an old thread. Woobies and arctic whites. Whoa!!!

Thanks for the revival:dblthumb2:! I just told my wife we need to detail the cars tomorrow in order to test the new Woobies. I can't stop feeling them! Is that strange?

Your wife details the cars with you?:urtheman:
Me and my crazy self went and ordered more woobies and arctic white thanks to bogo. If you think those are soft try the chinchillas.

I don't blame you for ordering more while the sale is on. It's easier to justify $25/6 as opposed to 3. I can't believe I don't have any Chinchilla's. They will be acquired in the near future I hope. As far as the wifey goes.....she's pretty good at washing, wheels and interiors, but she leaves me alone for the paint correction and protection.

My wife would rather me indoors detailing the bathroom. LOL

Quick qustion. I am looking for some cheapos for jams, wheel etc. I usually use the Microtex "Professional" ones from Wal-Mart. They have alwalys been 80% polyester/20% polamide.

They are now stocking Microtex "Platinums" that are 85% polyester/15%polamide. Is that a bad ratio? I have never seen a 85/15 spilt.

They seem much softer/plusher than my Microtex 80/20's. But the material seems glossier which is kinda weird/concering.

Go to Costco and buy the 36 pack. Those are great for wheels, door jams, etc...

Unfortunately Costco is a long drive for me and I am not a member but have you guys heard of a 85/15 split? I might give them a try they are very plush. 15 for $9.99. Not as good as Costco though but the quality seems pretty high for a low end cloth.

I saw those last time I was there. I guess they use more polyester for durability and lower cost. They are pretty thick though.

Was just there a minute ago and was about to post the same question until I saw your post. LOL.

I was feeling their drying towels. Didn't make purchase and got a pet hair mitt instead.

If you can't get to Costco MFs, then bring them to you. Go here

Microfiber Towels 16" x 16" Ultra Soft Microfiber Towels 36 Pack 350 GSM | eBay

I always say they're like a rite of passage to every Detailer.

Nice but I wish I lived closer to a Costco I bet they are a good bit cheaper buying at the store.

They felt pretty thick to me too. I thought quality looked good and they were very soft. The color on them is kinda "Shimmery" looking so that threw me off!

I might just pick them up tomorrow. I guess an extra 5% polyester would be OK.

Update. I made a run to Wal-Mart for some cheap non-paint duty microfibers and I picked up a 15 pack of those "Platinum Series Microfibers" along with some glass microfibers and terry towels today. Seen in this pic waiting to be broken in with Blackfire before first use:

Two concerns even though these are my non-paint towels:

1. My other cheap Wal-Mart ones have always been a 80/20 Polyester/Polyamide split and these new ones are 85/15? I have never seen this split before as I am used to seeing 70/30 and 80/20. Does anyone know if that is still an OK ratio for microfibers?

2. Something I guess I will have to find out is what is this mysterious "Microsheen" they are talking about on the packaging of the platinum series 15pk? The microfibers seem almost shimmery so maybe that is what they mean?

^ Good stuff Drew. I was a little worried about the edges looking at them. Let us know how they work for you.

No problem Jsou. I'll take a look at the edges after I get them out of the wash to see how they compare to the Microtex "Professional Series" that I have. I'm not too worried because they will not go near my paint (Except door jams). Man, I feel like I'm becoming a cheap microfiber aficionado lol!

By the way if you pick these up, bring them outside to shake out the lint/bits first and then put them through the wash to get out the rest. I'm sure its the same way with linting/bits with all cheapies like Costco etc.

One good thing is that these came tagless!

Oh, geez...just when I promised myself Metropolitan's edgeless would be it.

Damn it, you guys.

how are those towels???

I use adams towels now and they are great.....but always looking on great stuff at great prices. The "metropolitian edgeless" has a great price but is it a superior towel??

Just washed and folded the new "Platinum Series" towels and I can say the quality is not up to the old Microtex "Professional Series" that it is replacing. At least in some ways:

1. Edges are a slightly bigger/more harsh, although still not bad.
2. They edges fold up more after drying (Even on exta-low).
3. Towel is not as thick (Looks visibly smaller when folded).
4. Some corner edges are coming apart after wash number 1.

Seems like alot of negatives, but I will say I think they are softer than the "Pro-Series" and will do a good job on non-paint duty.

Certainly not a terrible buy for $9.99 (15pk) and a heck of alot better than what Wal-Mart was selling at the same price a few years ago.

Geez already coming apart? I have some AutoZone cheap MF towels that have been through countless of washes, still holding strong. They get beat to death to, use them for wheels & tires, interior, engines etc.
