Swirled out Solstice

Nice! I'm sure a proper detail will increase the value. Even if the customer doesn't know the difference between a swirl and a squrrel (lol), they'll notice the paint is very shiny and smooth. Subliminally they'll assume the car was properly maintained and well taken care of, which will hopefully give you faster turnovers!

Great job!

I agree with this. Nice job! :xyxthumbs:

That's awesome the detailer was open to the idea. Such a great turnaround.

They will if he doesn't change his wash methods.

Yup, workin on that one.. Sounds like it'll be one of those "prove it" moments again, so I'm thinking the plan should be to offer to wash the Solstice myself until its sold, then they can spot check me all they like. (By spot check I mean I will perform an IPA or mineral spirits wipe down correctly whenever they would like to prove the lack of wash instilled swirls.. Though I think that suggestion would directly insult the detailer, it's the best idea I've mustered thusfar)

Thanks, that's the exact idea!

Even better, he picked up the tool and attempted to compound the other fender on that Escalade! I say attempted because he wouldn't go above speed 2 and then, when the UC didn't knock out the scratch he went straight over and got his "rocks in a bottle" and worked the scratch over real good on speed 1, with the pad not even rotating.. lol

note: because he was using a pretty aggressive hand rubbing compound it DID remove the scratch, but left a hell of a hazy spot. He wouldn't really listen to my explanation of how the free floating assembly thing is supposed to work and he didn't seem to care that the pad wasn't rotating... Even though he just witnessed UC work on speed 6 on the other fender in no time flat! lol

Change takes time, new stuff takes getting used to... And it's gotta be difficult to listen to someone who's telling you that your 30 years of experience needs to be tweaked, especially when this person can't really definitively say "I have done this, this works. Look at my results." So I'm attempting to keep my trap shut and let him approach me.

Meanwhile I'm working the boss over. We're gonna discuss grit guards today, I've located some videos that should be helpful. Thanks again to Autogeek!

I think he will come around. While putting this much work on all of the cars on the lot isn't practical but for your special or high priced units the cost could be recouped.

When the cars are washed is it done on the lot with a power washer? Maybe a foam gun could be a wise investment?

No, we pull em into a bay.. And when I say "we" I mean "He", as we have one detailer and no "lot servants" (except us 2 sales guys, that is)... 1 bucket, one mitt... From what I can tell he's pretty particular about keeping them clean.

I was thinking a foam gun could be invaluable for "lot washing" the cars though... the less they are touched, the better.

No pics today, BTW.. Some much needed rain though!!

So have you told the "detailed" about the internet, and all the info on modern detailing that is available, like AG/AGO, Meg's Online, Autopia, etc?...
30 years experience! Man! He must be right up there with Mike Phillips and all the other detailers out there. Right?...

lol, yeah, I told him.. Late one night over a quart of 'shine. He said:

"Enter Net? I don't enter nets, that's a good way to get trapped!"

Seriously though, I don't think they pipe the Internet that far back into the woods, y'all... ;)

Vehicles can only get so dirty sitting on the lot and test drives. Lot washing adds the most swirls...usually spray off, chamois dry. Soap as needed.

I finally landed on the internet after moving to Md. a few months before signing up here. I was on Caswell's forum for 3 years sitting in a chair behind the better half.
Once I got "trapped" last year...she bought me a laptop. My days of detailing for profit are numbered I do believe.

Hopefully things will work out. You can lead a horse to water...
Post an after pic of the Escalade/rocks in a bottle if you're inclined, but I understand if you don't.

Actually I didn't get back to work until today and he's already pulled the 'Lade in and "fixed" the fender...

No sunshine today either, but a good beading shot:

Still looks good!!:props:

At first glance...
I would have thought a coat of Collimite #845 would/should have beaded better than that...

But then I remembered the beading may have been compromised by what appears to be this vehicle's:
"Chili Pepper Red" paint scheme...(Or, even, a similar: 'Pull me over' Red paint job at that!!)

:D

lol, yeah.. In our industry it's called "Resale Red" cause it's the most popular sports car color.. Or at least it was in the 80's when that phrase got coined. lol

Got a half a second of sun peeking through the clouds.. So I took advantage:

No more swirls, just some waterspots from yesterday's rain drying out..

These photos reminded me to tell you that the Dealership needs to get the 8hp. Master Blaster, or two. :dblthumb2:

How did the Grit Guard discussion go? Have you softened up the detailer any?
Working on him... GG discussion is coming soon.

lol, I've been biding my time a bit, watching to see how the Colly holds up.. Two days of rain, here's the car in full sun:

Still a bit of a debate on if the ultimate polish will "wash off" revealing swirls beneath. We'll see, I'll be the one washing it.

I'm glad you updated, I've been wondering if the good 'ol boys have been warming up any haha. OMG the car STILL looks great! :)
