Hi all,
First off, thank you all so much for the assistance. Didn't have too much daylight to work with, but with the hour or so I did have, I went to work. All I can say is WOW.
I mean, for my first time, going off of what I have seen in Mr. Phillips videos, I am very proud of my work thus far. It is so incredibly easy to do this (albeit time consuming - but totally worth it!) I am so glad I "took the leap" and bought the stuff.
Here are a few sort of poor before and afters of the 1 pass I did make on each section (roof, and trunk). Pics do not do it justice, 90+% of all the scratches are gone, and 100% of the mineral etchings and oxidation. Woo hoo!
Question now is......
Now that certain areas have tens of thousands of less scratches, some RIDS remain. I've read the warnings about not trying to remove them all (as you'll take the clear with it), but I think a product a bit more aggressive than Optimum Compound II would remove a good deal of them.
What would you folks recommend as a product that is somewhat more aggressive, but still fairly user friendly?
Or would it be best I just leave it be, because I'm very, very satisfied with my current results.
William it is FANFREAKINTASTIC to see your new work!

Told ya' you'd be glad you did.:dblthumb2: This car polishing stuff is sorta' fun huh?
The before and after reminds me of my kids 4Runner I did a week or so back. It hadn't been done ever, and it's a 98. For 15 year old paint it looks awesome, (actually it looks awesome for NEW paint, but you'd never figure it was that old by looking at it.
Lemee ask you this RE the OC II, did you try side by side tests with your most agressive pad and the one you used? (Or did you end up using the most agressive one you had?)
Did you end up not getting the WG twins? Seems I remember you talking about them earlier, but you did the car with OC II right?
Really no matter, as if you feel you need a bit more correction (and your pads are the constant part here) then yes, you'll need a bit more cutting. Those old Lincolns had more paint on them than the new stuff these days, and probably (as you've said before was never corrected before, so you likely need not worry about about cutting through the clear (completely) this time around.
Can try a few things here.
1: Grab a couple of Microfiber pads and try the OC II with them. (Or the WG for sure.)
2: You said you had some Megs UC? Grab that and give it a try.
3: Ask Shaun if he has a little Megs 101 you can borrow. I can tell you, you WILL like it! :dblthumb2:
I would say buy a bottle, although it certainly isn't cheap, but you'll end up wanting to do everything you own with it! REALLY!!! (Plus you can pay Shaun back after you get yours) heheeheheeee
And while you're at it.... might as well top that with either a new bottle of 205.
Or.... can't remember, but if you have the Megs Ultimate Polish that'll work great too. (Honestly I guess what you're really looking for is more compound cut, likely your OP, UP, or WG will be more than up to the task of getting ready for LSP.)
BTW, that is a darned good first run there William. And, at the end of the day, the ONLY person you need to please is yourself. It is so very easy to get OCD once you start seeing just how good the results can be. As Michael Stoops over on MOL says: "
Remember, this hobby is supposed to be your therapy, not the reason you need therapy." Im the MAN
