I'm sure that this has been discussed before but my searches turn up nothing. What do you guys use to clean the filler cap area? Brushes, MF towels. Looking for tips and tricks.

When I use my foam cannon I use a brush and clean it then. Then wipe down when drying the car.

I open the gas door and hit the area with my foam cannon while I'm foaming the vehicle. I then agitate the area with a small boars hair brush, then rinse the area along with the rest of the car.

I use air to dry that area as my fat fingers sometimes can't fit in the small places around the cap. Im the MAN

Mine stay pretty clean, so I use carwash soap and a RaceGlaze brush

For a major cleanup, a tornador works great!

When I first gor the car I used Megs APC @ 10:1 with a Raceglaze style brush as that area was pretty dirty.
Now a bit of car soap & a quick brush over maintains it

For an initial 'deep' clean, some APC at 10:1 agitated with various brushes. For maintenance, I just open the flap and spray with the foam cannon, agitate a little and rinse with the rest of the car

A couple of shots of Optimum Power Clean and an inexpensive parts cleaning brush I went from this....

I always rate other detailers in my area by wether or not if they clean the gas cap area.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I am only a hobbyist and the gas cap area, door, trunk and hood jambs are just as important as the paint that you can regularly see. My girlfriend thought that I was crazy cleaning those areas but now she notices how dirty other people's cars are when
she is getting in and out, fueling up, or putting stuff in the trunk.

Quick squirt of D103 with a shot of steam with jet nozzle attachment and a MF towel does the trick for me.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Ya all my customers are surprised when I show them the gas cap area how clean it is. If you think about it you have to touch that area every week to get gas and its nice to have it clean.

YUP! once you know the "details" in detailing, you never look at cars normally again...

Educating my clients on where and what to look for is such a big part of what i do. It provides them with value and knowledge that give them a sense of appreciation, not to mention TRUST with you.

I cannot recommend it enough to everyone here who works on other people's baby! :xyxthumbs:
