I just moved to the area but have been following this thread for a couple of months now; just wondering if the monthly meets will continue through the winter. I'm a novice and I'd love to get some tips from some of the more experienced guys in the area.

Any plans for a December meet?

Welcome to the area. I'm sure we could work something out for a December. Let's see how everyone's schedule is for the month.

Hmm I will definitly have to look up the KB info on the Dynabrade head I really thought it went from forced rotation to DA. That does change it a bit. The research continues!

Yep! Check this thread out!

Hey Fellows, Looking forward for a December date although Sunday might be a better day for me since things still busy with my regular job 6days a week for now. Curious how products work in low temps and what techniques work best. Brrrr

Wow, lots of information in that thread... so it IS like a flex however. Not at all the same characteristics of a flex BUT its off center and does in fact orbit and rotate in rotary mode. KB stated it does this at a 1:1 and I assume only orbits around the spindle of the polisher so a very very small orbit. However, switch to DA mode and its a monster 19mm orbit that had a lot of conflicting info if the pad was easy to stop or not. Some said that it was easy to stop on curved panels (similar to a rupes) others said it was near impossible unless you held it at an angle and put a lot of pressure on it. I'm guessing that mostly came down to the particular pad they were using (size mostly) more than anything else. It still seems it was a highly regarded tool in the eyes of Kevin Brown though so I think I will still try it out.

Sure is Jeremy. I look forward to your experiences.

Quick announcement guys.

With the winter weather heading to us, we will be shutting down these gatherings for the rest of the season. I would also like to mention that moving forward, these gatherings will have to be invite only due to an overwhelming response. I may revisit the idea come spring time.

If anyone wants to host their own meets or events, feel free. I can leave this thread open for discussions, chat, etc.

Rats! Just after I arrive you shut down for the season.

Hope I can get on the invite list for next year.

Thanks for doing these!

Well, it's not that I'm being an elitist prick or anything for suggesting an "invitation only" type deal. It just seems that some past attendees have come to push their own agenda or freeload information.

It's as if they get the time behind a polisher and the next thing you know...they're a pro detailer in the region.

Well I hate to say it, but to be an actual Pro-detailer by law you need to have:

-Business license in your town or county
-Insurance/Bond of some sort

Otherwise you're just a side job enthusiast no matter how skilled you are.

I have all of the above and I don't claim to be a professional master of this art. I'm actually legit meaning, own a legal business. Yes, there are people with legit businesses who are hacks, we are all aware of that. Just stating the facts.

What's happened here is that now this affects my business (and a few others).

Let's say for example, if any of these "pro's" screw up a car, my business & I are automatically affiliated and guilty by association.

There's 20k views on this thread alone, just about everyone in the region has seen it. So imagine a potential client looking for a detailer in the area and they notice that one of these detailers from the area has a bad rep. They're going to automatically pile us into a group and everyone loses.

And they do. Many people know about the infamous "NOVA group that details cars".

I don't want that. Call me whatever you want but I'm just watching my own back and I expect others to do the same.

It's also a slap to the ones who took the steps to go legit in this industry.

AND before anyone assumes that I'm scared of competition, It's definitely not that and you'd be ignorant to think it. There are enough cars in one city for many of us to handle.

It's that potentially losing out because of someone else's mistake..SUCKS.

I've kept my business low key as most of my clients come through by word of mouth and I'm not a production detailer by any means.

The idea of this was to share tips and tricks and just have a good time with fellow enthusiasts and pros or help out those that want to learn. Not turn it into an actual school, certification program, (Which I've never intended it to be) or a time and place for self gain (i.e, advertisement).

As I stated earlier, if someone wants to host their own thing, go right ahead. It's a free country. I don't really care if you own a business either, just wanted to sound my thoughts, and that I no longer want to be affiliated.

I'm sure that those who do own a business understand where I'm coming from.

CLIFF NOTES:

I'm here looking to meet new friends and share passion. Not mix business. Plain and simple.

Sorry to hear it came to this but I can definitly understand. You were a very gracious host the 2 times I got to go and I appreciate that. I only do this as a hobby and definitly attended more to hang out and detail, maybe eat some BBQ, than try and get last minute skills for my lucrative detail business! Hopefully I'll get to come out again and maybe we can FINALLY get to use some opti-coat! GTI is no more but I may have a new mustang we shall see!

I live in the Rockville Area, I would definitely come meet up with you all.

Sorry to hear that jake . I know the feeling about the business end of it all and also the labeling of being a pro detailer . I have been in the detailing industry for 15 years . I still do not lable myself as a pro . This industry changes all the time . I mean products , paints ,and clear coating have all evolved . I dont think one can stop learning in are field . But im up for a meet in the spring if you would like to invite me . If not no hard feelings . I have been thinking about hosting my own in southwest va sometime . But your post makes me rethink it alill . I dont believe anyone in my area is a geek or as far as I know no fellow geeks live in my direct area . Anyhow sorry for all the bs you have undergone and happy detailing to you .

Jeremy, you are welcome my friend. Can't wait to see what's next. I will miss that GTI!

Thanks Jason. It's not even a big deal. I hope everything works out for you though in hosting an event.

I don't think I will continue to host anymore. Have had several life changes in the past week and I'm just not for any kind of drama...be it petty or big. From egos to scheduling conflicts, or whining for not being a part of a certain detail. I can't deal with it.

That to me is BS and not getting down and getting your hands dirty for the cause. I'm signing off and won't be on this forum very much anymore.

Those that have my contact, can keep up with me via phone or messaging.

Detail smart and shine on, everyone.

If a mod or admin can see this, could you please either close or delete this thread? Thanks in advance.
