Hello all!
So due to a bit of annoyance of random youtube reviews comparing two products side by side, which some lack a lot of control and are biased. I decided to start a segment on here that compares two products on a consistent, side by side, on an even playing field to compare products.
I am really striving for equal and unbaised trials, product control, but mostly following manufacturer directions.
So I am testing CG Diablo and Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect on my Mercedes. Both claim to be powerful, pH neutral cleaners for all wheel surfaces.
So due to the fact the car naturally dusts up a lot, I have been searching for a good wheel cleaner. I have tried Sonax and Diablo on the front wheels only (front wheels dust up more and because both the left and the right brake equally, they dust up the same).
Both product will be applied dry as per manufacturer directions. Sonax at full strength and Diablo at 1:4. Both will be allowed to dwell for 5 minutes
Left Wheel Before
Right Wheel Before
Sonax Application
Diablo Applied and dwell time 5 minutes
Sonax after 5 Minutes
Now I did not agitate the wheels because it really negates the purpose of this test. With agitation, plain shampoo with do the same job in this case. For this reason, I simply pressure washed them off thoroughly.
Sonax After
Diablo After
VERDICT!:
Overall, the pictures speak for themselves. The Sonax cleaned better. It cleaned the barrel and callipers better than the Diablo. Although, I was shocked at how well the Diablo cleaned considering you cannot "see" it working. In this case though, I will actually give my vote to the Diablo for a few reasons.
1. It is more gentle than the Sonax, yet has similar cleaning results. If you have a pair of high end or sensitive rims, I would argue this is the better choice.
2. Diablo is a lot cheaper, 16oz of diluted product (1:4) is $4.25 working out to $0.27/oz. Sonax is $16 for 16.9oz of product equalling $0.95/oz
3. As most of us do, we all agitate our rims with an array of brushes and tools to thoroughly clean them. Factor that agitation will make these products equally effective at cleaning, Diablo is the better all round product because it is cheaper, more gentle, and smells better LOL.
Thanks for reading and please let me know if there are any products that you would like to see tested!
