A section of a door I did on an F-150.

OP, your before and afters are shocking and should shown to anyone who thinks claying isn't needed, imagine apply a wheel to the paint w/o doing that important step first, O-M-G ! ! !

Keep em' coming guys!

This is great guys! That's some FILTHY clay! I'll break the rules slightly and post up a vid of that 2000 Accord. This was the worst section of the car... :dblthumb2:

Hey Nick, i saw the video and i thought i was breaking the rules by claying fast :D
Do you usually clay that hard on a good to near perfect finish with no/ very less swirls ? Or was it because you had to do a correction later?

Hey thanks for watching and great questions. This car was so badly contaminated it took two people about probably an hour to clay all the road tar, sap, and iron particles off the paint. In terms of technique I was using much more aggresive force and speed to work on this paint compared to what is appropriate on a well cared for vehicle. The paint was such a wreck to begin with the very last thing I was worried about was any marring induced from the claying process.

The most heavily contaminated vehicle that I have ever clayed was a MK6 Volkswagen GTI that had less than 5,000 Miles. This lovely picture was taken after claying just a portion of the hood.

Now this one is weird, it's from a dark cherry red F150... the tailgate is the only panel that did that!

That happened to my car recently! I had just clayed and polished a few weeks prior and then all of a sudden I could feel the grit like sandpaper on the next wash. When I clayed it turned the claybar pink. Every panel was equally contaminated...

What do you think causes that type of contamination to make the claybar turn pink? Some sort of tree sap or pollen???

I have no idea, I know in my customers case, it was the first time the truck was detailed since he had it new two years before... and it was really only the tail gate... he does a lot of hunting, so for a while I though maybe there was dried animal blood or something...

Thanks for getting back to me. By the way, which clays does meguiars offer currently? And do you know if there's any difference between the clay in Smooth Surface clay kit and Quik clay?

Here are the various clay options from Meg's in order of aggressiveness:

Meguiars Professional Detailing Clay Aggressive - C2100

Meguiars Professional Auto Detailing Clay, meguiars C2000 clay bar, Detail Clay cleans better than polishes! Clean your car with Meguiars Detailing

Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit, meguiars detailing clay,

More aggressive clay will work faster to remove contaminates but will potentially mar the surface on more delicate automotive finishes. The smooth clay kit is the least aggressive and will almost never mar the surface if used carefully.

Regards,

Could be red clay from a country road

Thanks for taking the time out; I appreciate it. :)
Well, I was working on a car which hadn't been clayed in its life (about 7-8 years) and the SSCK didn't remove much and I had to follow up with a cleaner wax. Next time i'll be polishing so i'll go for a more aggresive one.

From maybe a 1 square foot section of hood off of a 69' Z28 DZ 302.

I need to stop checking this thread while I'm eating LOL. Keep the pics coming guys!!!

ONE rocker panel of a "never been detailed" 2005 Cavalier. I did the rest with a Nanoskin mitt. The whole thing felt like sandpaper... just wanted to see how bad it was with a traditional claybar.
